I never said I faulted anyone, but let’s not pretend about the way things are. I really dislike that about Arlington. I’m all for a great education for all kids, and that means integrated schools. |
PP isn't pretending, you are. All immigrants are not the same. The more $$ you have to spend to get here, the more likely it is that your family of origin is educated and better resourced. |
Under 30% literacy is not a culture that values education. There are many reasons for this, but let’s not just sugarcoat everything. The top percent makes it here, and that’s fine. |
Don't be daft. No ones sugar coating anything; you seem to resent the suggestion that immigrants could be something other than a burden for you and yours to bear. Boohoo. All the literacy rate (it's actually 39 percent) tells you is that it's a developing country. It says nothing at about cultural values. quit trolling. |
Awesome. So you won’t mind if we put all of them in your school, because that’s what we’re gonna do. Great policy! Education level of the mother is better predictor of academic achievement. That’s is why I used the female literacy rate. I have nothing against immigrants, but don’t let that get in the way of your sanctimony. |
DP. And literacy rate for men is 57%. And 60% of the population is under age 25. 5 children per woman, average. All these things tell me a lot. |
Somehow I don’t think your child actually goes to school with lots of immigrants from Ethiopia and Eritrea. Mine does. And is learning and gets lots of individual attention. Regardless of literacy rates in these students’ developing countries of origin, I think you would be surprised how many of these families show up at schoolwide events or make use of interpreters on the days they are provided to help translate report cards or at parent teacher conferences. But yes, by all means break up existing communities where resources can easily be provided so your child can meet the “right” kind of immigrants, or preferably fewer of them, or only immigrants who make it here loaded with cash and resources, right? Where are all the Norwegians? |
Yeah, all of this. I'm a parent at a school with a population of Ethiopian students. They are killing it. That's all. I imagine their parents' country of origin did not provide the opportunities they wanted for their children. So they came here, and aren't going to squander any chances they are given. I don't think PP is a parent in South Arlington. Just another troll trying to stir up trouble. |
Clearly you do have a problem sending your kid(s) to a school with immigrants. |
