DeSantis and FL moving to hammer Disney

Anonymous
DeSantis just set up a protection racket.

Desantis and Republicans are completely ignorant of their own economy and tax base. Florida can get by with no income tax because of all the sales taxes, property taxes, hotel taxes, restaurant taxes, etc. paid by all the tourists, plus all the tourist jobs. The idea that Disney benefits from the state rather than the opposite is economically idiotic.

The awesome move would be if Disney called his bluff. Many shorts would be soiled that day I tell you.

Agree and I suspect the Mouse House lawyers have something spectacular up their sleeves and bury DeSantis in mouse dung.

Those companies are free to leave if they find business and government conditions so untenable in Florida, but they know it is very profitable to do business there.

It could be just as profitable in New Jersey, Maryland, Mississippi, etc. If Disney closed and relocated Florida would be in big trouble.

Disney's problem is all the land. Disney set up long ago, when the land was cheap and plentiful. They got a special local government arrangement because there was no adequate local government, no services, no utilities or infrastructure. Disney built all of it. Trying to replicate that somewhere else in America would be difficult. DeSantis is a bastard. Disney should sue Florida and DeSantis for all they are worth.

Wow. Here's another unhinged Florida Republican, trying to pass a bill to eliminate the Democratic party. https://www.wesh.com/article/ultimate-cancel-act-florida-democratic-party/43125234

They should but they won’t. The well worn way for big corporations to deal with authoritarians like DeSantis is to pay them off so they be a favored insider. And that’s exactly what they did here. They agreed to this new special district strict where they can funnel money to DeSantis and his cronies. This is how authoritarians gain and maintain power.

There is plenty of land available and the locals will give them a better deal if Disney shopped around. The thing is the parks are not a large part of the revenues.

How many hundreds of billions would it take to rebuild Disney world?

A lot of it could be packed and moved.
Not tunnels and infrastructure, but most attractions can be moved.
Hell some of them would be better off scrapped and started again. How many times has the jungle cruise or pirates of the Caribbean broken down this year?

Disney world is the size of San Francisco. You are not being realistic. They cant pick it up and move it without rebuilding it.

I suspect that this anti Reedy Creek action has a lot more to do with the construction of Epic Universe than with Chapek's dumb decision to weigh in on Florida's approach to sex education of kindergarteners. DeSantis has repeatedly said he is getting pressure for giving Disney advantages that "other companies" dont get.

It's not just the Magic Kingdom, which could be replicated. But you also have Epcot, animal safari, studio, and some hotels. We stayed at an island with cabins and campgrounds, that had its own attractions, as well as regular boats to and from the park's main gate.

Well, then. If so simple and profitable, they should follow your suggestion and move out of Florida.

every state has seen what Disney has done for tourism in Florida. If they announced they were looking for a new site, states would be rushing to offer them land and tax breaks
