| We to FCPS from MoCo in third grade, my kid took the cogat but missed by a very small margin. He is in advanced math at his base school, I not very knowledgeable about the FCPS AAP program. Can he retake the test in 4th grade or this is it? Also, we are fine either way but it will be good to know our options. Thanks much! |

| yes |
There is no pool in 3rd grade or up, so you would have had to parent refer anyway. There’s no such thing as missing by a very small margin on the test. Kids can be referred with any test scores. |
We didn’t know about the parent referral, I guess my next stop should be to talk with the school AART teacher, when I say he missed by a small margin, what that means is that his composite was 130 and the cutoff this year was 132. |
the 132 is a score that would have gotten him in a pool of kids automatically considered for admission starting in third grade. It is not an admission cut off. |
+1 He can retake the Cogat at your request or you could refer using the old score. |

OP—Go to the website and read up on the process including testing and deadlines. As other posters have said, there is no admissions cut-off score. It’s different than in MoCO. There are plenty of students with scores below 132 that have been designated for Level 4 services.

Per the FCPS website we can request one retest in fall, is that what you are referring to? |
Thanks! |
| Also, we didn’t receive his NNAT score. Is it available on parent portal? |
Is this OP? If so, your kid didn’t take it. Only one test has to be offered to students arriving after first grade. |
Yes, I am the OP and I asked that question. Thanks a lot! I feel frustrated that zero information or guidance was provided by the school at the beginning of 3rd grade, I guess it’s expected that every parent knows everything there is to know about these programs. |
I hear you. You missed this year’s referral deadline which was January 9. You will have to wait until next year to refer him. |
Which means he wouldn’t even start AAP until 6th grade. I’m asusming he is in 4th this year? |
