Identity is Prius - buy a new one or upgrade?

Anonymous
DH has been driving a Prius for over ten years. He identifies as a Prius owner - he considers himself practical and loves the environmental friendly aspect. His best case scenario is buying a Tesla, but that's too expensive for us. Anyone bought a new Prius after owning one previously? Did you like the new one? Or should we upgrade to a hybrid in another car?

Your DH needs to change his identity.

I upgraded my 2009 Prius to a 2019 Prius in the fall and I love the new one so much. I think he should upgrade!

I don't even say Prius--I say Pius (pronounced like pious) because people use them as badges of environmental piety.

There are LOTS of hybrid/plugin/full electrics out there, although it's probably going to be another 5 years or so before full-electrics are really a good mainstream choice. Still--branch out! I mean, if you love everything about the Pius, go ahead and get another one. But there are so many more options now.

I'm the same as your DH. Love my 2007 Prius. It actually runs perfectly fine, but... it's getting old. I would like a brand new Prius, or a Tesla, which is a little pricey... I really don't like any of the other options out there right now, and my Prius has had no problems whatsoever. it's just the feeling that I need to branch out and get something new. So, I stick with my old Prius for now... waiting for something better to come along...

TBH, you sound like an anti-social douche. You're soooooooooooo edgy in your Prius hate.

Why not just drive the old one?

We live in the city and just replaced our 2007 Prius with the BMW i3. The BMW can be expensive but USAA car buying service knocked $11,500 off the price.
We do a lot of driving in the city and use it as commuter car. If you like the prius you will like this car. Test drive it or another electric.

Love my 2018 Prius. They also now offer it with 4 wheel drive.

Yup. Toyota has beefed up the engine since 2007 - it now has much better acceleration.

If your husband wants a really nice small suv, have him test drive the RAV4 Hybrid XSE. Really sporty styling, multiple AWD driving moods, and really awesome acceleration @ 40mpg

So his identity is "he sorta kinda cares about the environment, up to a point where he doesn't actually have to do anything that changes his life in any way whatsoever" then?

Because otherwise he'd have a fully electric car.

Just bought a 2020 Prius Prime. Love it. Had a 2006 Prius which about 5 people wanted to buy from me with stacks of cash.

What did you get for your old one? I have a 2005.

Prius is up there with PT Cruiser on the hideous car scale, IMO.
