Will my kid need a chrome book for middle school?

Do I need to buy one for home use?

They have them for use at the school.

I decided to buy a very cheap chrome book this year for my 5th and 2nd grader because I know my 5th grader will need it even more next year. We only had one family laptop and too often I was using it for work and one of my kids needed it for homework. They either needed to type up something, access their google drive or practice math on a suggested website. It was only $150 or so and it's rather slow, but for doing their google classroom work, it's great.

They have them at school but some sort of computer (can be any kind) is useful for doing work at home.

My son does the majority of his homework on google drive and myMCPS classroom. We let him use my husband's old laptop. I would suggest buying a chrome book if you do not have a computer for your child to access at least twice a week.

Yes I know that but you can’t take them home.

You don't have a computer at home that your child can use?

I bought one for my 5th grader and it has been very useful. It is kept in a common area, and having a computer the kids can use for homework, Khan Academy, or whatever has been a gamechanger. Now I can stream 90 Day Fiancee while I do the dishes while my child does their homework. No need to choose!

We purchased a Chromebook for less than $200 when my daughter entered 6th grade and it has been immensely helpful. Almost everything she does in middle school is on Google Classroom.

Privilege? Give me a break lady. My daughter’s chromebook was $88. I am positive you wasted $88 this month on things you don’t really need and probably own a pretty nice phone. So check yourself.

They do not NEED a chrome book on MS. Our DD has used our home PC until Xmas, when we got her a chromebook. She is a junior. She still didn't need it, it was about getting her used to using it, carrying it around, not losing it, before we buy her a real computer to go to college with in 18 months. Then the chrome book will go to her younger sister.

Both of you need to calm down.

NP. Two teacher household so we are on a tight budget and bought DD a Chromebook for $88 recently. There are sites that sell them for as low as $68.

But my school has families that could not scrape up $88 spare dollars over the course of a year and certainly aren’t wasting that much each month.

I forgot to add that Walmart is where we got one for $88. Online.
