| Thanks for posting! It sounds like all ES will have math curriculum next year if I am reading it right. |
Interestingly, they still decided that both compacted 4/5 and 5/6 will return next year with the existing curriculum. |
For the future, could they pay Eureka (or the middle school math curriculum provider) to create a 4/5 and 5/6 curriculum to use in compacted math? I don’t understand why they went with different providers for ES and MS, given the current structure with compacted math. |
| Follow the money. The County was ripped by Pearson Educational Testing for 9 years: then ALMOST ripped again by Discovery Channel ‘Education’ three years ago in a bribery scandal with the Curriculum office...I mean the admin are corrupt and stupid. Not sure what’s worse but the combo is why we are where we are with MCPS. 3 billion a year and no independent Inspector General. And this place is considered one of the ‘smartest,’ most ‘educated’ places in the country? Please. |
My kids never took compacted math. But the curriculum for 4/5 and 5/6 was developed in house, correct? What I fear is an overly scripted instructional day. I have friends who teach middle school ELA using the purchased programs; they claim there's no wiggle room. I'm not a robotic teacher. I tweak lessons during the class period and from period to period. The best lessons are designed by creative and smart teachers who understand the need to be flexible. When autonomy is stripped, you may as well hire a proctor with strong technological skills. Can any MS ELA teacher share anything positive about these online programs? (I've yet to hear anything positive.) - HS English teacher |
Discovery makes me cringe. We call it MCPS Part II. |
Not a teacher, but my kids MS English teacher HATES the curriculum. The teacher is good, and has been clear with parents that he/she is not a fan of the StudySync materials/assessments. |
Agreed. I find it mind-boggling that an area like MoCo, with so many educated, involved parents allows for such corrupt, inept leadership. I think MCPS is just too large and it’s impossible to make changes when that is the case. |

thanks - So another MS teacher isn't impressed. good for him/her for being honest |
