I can’t find anything to read! I’m not even sure what I’m looking for. Some recent books I liked are below; any recs along these lines?
My Sister the Serial Killer Lake Success Sharp Objects Red Sparrow Bad Blood Pachinko H is for Hawk The Last Days of Night Stuff Matters Every Note Played/ medical novels in general |

Do you like Liane Moriarty (author of Big Little Lies)? Some of her books are good.
Others I recently read are The Girl Before (suspense), Burial Rites (historical) |
|
Clover Blue
I couldn’t put it down. Though the ending wasn’t as strong as the rest of the book. |
Nine Perfect Strangers is such a page-turner. |
|
Just finished Educated by Tara Westover and it was gasp-out-loud astonishing in parts.
Anything read by Bahni Turpin is great, also. |
|
Burial Rites looks great and I had never heard of it. Thanks!
I’m all over Liane Moriarty— Chick lit with brains. |
Looks great, thank you! |
Lots of good stuff in Bahni Turpin’s audible page, thanks! |
| Just finished "The Prisoner of the Castle of Enlightenment" by Therese Doucet. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in France during the Enlightenment. And yes it isn't released until next week, but for some reason my pre-order at Politics and Prose came in before the official release date. It's a nice mix of fairy tale and philosophy. |

I think you and I share a lot of our taste - quirky literary fiction tending toward the slightly dark side, with more character and atmosphere than plot?
Based on your list - I assume you've read Convenience Store Woman already, and Eleanor Oliphant and Severance? I recently listened to Nothing To See Here, and really enjoyed it. An older book that I also recently listened to and liked was Circe. (I'm assuming you've already read Circe, though.) How about Normal People or the Nickel Boys? (Two VERY different books - but both really good.) Another oldie (at this point) that I think would be up your alley is My Year of Rest and Relaxation |
| I liked Nothing to See Here, too. My favorite book this year was The Great Believers. I did not like Nine Perfect Strangers (recommended above) though I do like that author’s other books. |
| Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate is excellent |
Oh Girl. I liked a lot of these and am going to recommend something...different. "Bloody Jack" series. Yes, it is YA but it's FAB. Gail Carrier. She's different and wonderful. I've read and listened to books in both series...all good. |

The tiger's wife
And for something lighter: where'd you go, Bernadette? |
| Thanks bunches for the new recs! I already made it through a couple of the first ones and they were spot on! |
