So, almost half of the folks going to these meetings aren't even parents of currently enrolled children? I wonder how many are people who don't have school aged kids and are just worried about their home values. |

Biased? The numbers were presented in the slideshow shown during the meeting. The figures about attendees only applied to the Gaithersburg and White Oak meetings. |

I watched most of it earlier today when it was live. Smondrowski came out how she's in favor of neighborhood schools more or less.
Silvestre asked a good question of Smith about why they added the "especially" bit to the FAA policy regarding diversity. Smith gave a long-winded answer which didn't really answer the question, and Silvestre didn't follow up on it. O'Neill was getting mad at the supposed misinformation on Facebook groups, and almost seemed like she was calling for censorship. Docca didn't say anything of value, but no surprise there. Overall, no big revelations in my opinion. But the board didn't really acknowledge how so many people are up in arms about this, whether justified or not, and figure out how to address that. I'm not even sure _how_ they should address it, but bottom line is people on all sides are concerned, and they don't seem to be doing a very good job to allay those concerns. |

Sure, if you want to call Facebook group moderation "censorship". Of course you're posting on an Internet message board where the owner also engages in "censorship." Maybe at some point Smondrowski can also explain how she defines the "neighborhood schools" she's in favor of. |

especially the actual comments submitted to the school board. These comments have not been edited and appear as they were submitted: • “Each student deserves and excellent MCPS education regardless of house or apartment, SES, home language or educational attainment of parents.” • “Rearranging where students will go to raise test schools in other schools isn’t improving the results, it is fudging results. If my children were to buses to different high schools of middle schools we will move or go to private school.” • “It is imperative that the study review changes with the goal of making the schools more representative of the general population. … I for one think my children at bills mill, cabin John and Churchill would have benefitted from more diversity both socio economically and with going to school with more minority students. I’m embarrassed at the insensitivity shown by students in ‘rich’ schools and wish I understood this issue better.” • “Why I chose MCPS school is because the reputation. But the boundary change will put too much bad affects to the kids we love. Kids’ test scores were lower, behaviors went bad, after enroll with those kids whose parents are careless at all.
