Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Rockville?

Anonymous
Our pet needs treatment that our regular vet can’t do, so they referred us to Blue Pearl. I’m concerned about their hard sells for procedures combined with their inability to give estimates for said procedures, despite the fact they have a sonogram, until the pet is under the knife. I don’t want to get into details in case we go with them, although I’m asking our regular vet for other recs. My main concern is not the cost but the pet’s quality of remaining life and unnecessary surgery. Has anybody had good or bad experiences with Blue Pearl?

I had a friend take their dog there in an emergency and she was pleased with the service but your situation is different. Our vet refers out to Southpaws in case you want to compare.

We went to Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital in Laurel.

We live in Potomac, best decision ever. Surgery locally was over $7000, RGA $1500. Excellent results.

We used Blue Pearl and they gave us a low and high end range estimate for our dog's surgery. The estimate was for all care, including meds and post op follow-up appointments.

We were pleased with both the customer service and the level of care provided. Our dog was 11 years old so I do understand the concern about paying a lot of money for a significant medical procedure. It certainly can't hurt to get a second opinion.

Call this place first and talk with the doctor. You will know everything up front, no upselling services. Amazing care and service.
They come to your home to see the pet, this is huge to reduce stress on the animals.

We were referred there for cancer care and were given estimates for three different treatment plans. No hard sell whatsoever. Wonderful end of life care. They ARE expensive but they are a first class facility.

Dr. Perl is wonderful but it sounds like OP's pet needs surgery. He's not prepared for that level of care.

Blue Pearl’s pricing methods are unethical. They give you a range of several thousand dollars, but won’t get more precise until you show up right before the surgery. When your pet is almost under the knife, then you have to decide whether to go with, surprise, the high end of their estimates. Totally unethical.

This guy is great. He came to my home within four hours of calling him on a Sunday morning.

Yep, Dr Rassmussen (sic) was great. She treated my lab with cancer and was one of the best vet's I've dealt with.

Any idea how much does it cost only for annual check-up?

Blue Pearl told us that we had to do surgery. Even without knowing beforehand what kind of cancer it was and whether it would come roaring back in a month.

It used to be $85 for the fee to come to your house, and standard rates for procedures.
