Maret

Please weigh in on Maret! We were all set to go full throttle on PK apps for our DC, but I then went to Maret's open house in early December and can't stop thinking that we should wait to apply next year. Granted, school was not in session during the open house so I am eager to hear more about the school. Also, how much of a disadvantage (if any) are you applying to Beauvoir and Sidwell in K vs PK for a non-sibling. Thx!

Because of size, it is very, very hard to get into Maret in K...I would suggest not setting your heart on it or letting it drive your decisions. That said, it is an excellent school. At Beauvoir, I think you have fairly equal chances applying in PK or K. Don't know about Sidwell.

Better chance at Beauvoir in PreK b/c they take 3 classes worth of kids and at K they only add one additional class

Yup -- we found out at Beauvoir it was too late to apply for K...too many kids applying for too few spots

Agree about Maret - highly unlikely you'll get in, given the small size of K and the many siblings and other priority applicants.

Apply to Beauvoir and Maret. Ask Maret how many slots are open to the general pool. They will tell you. It's problem in the single digits!

there are 21 or 22 spots total. There are 12 sibling applicants so 9 or 10 spots are left for next year in K.

PP where did you get this information?

Apply Sidwell and Beauvoir pk -- if you get in AND it's not everything you could desire, you can always apply to Maret next year. If you get in and love it, don't look back. (And if you don't get in, you're in the same place as if you'd never applied.)

not trying to be cryptic. it is from a credible source.

Loved Maret. But applied to Beauvoir and Sidwell for Pre-K. Got into one and had to go but would have preferred Maret.

What exactly does this mean? My understanding is that siblings (for the most part) have to apply in PK -- so there must be close to 20 spots open to new families in K. Granted it is less than those open in PK but unless I am missing something I wouldn't classify this as "too late," could poster please explain?

Maret starts in K. No Pre-K. There are only 20 spots -- 10 girls -- 10 boys. I was told by the admissions people that between 10-12 spaces are usually taken by siblings/alumni/faculty -- which only leave 8-10 spots for those with no connections. Also, in past years -- if that 10-12 included 7 boys -- then only 3 spots remained for those applying with boys with no connections.
