US soccer rumors of changing back age groups?

I have been hearing that US soccer will be changing the age range back to its original format. Has anyone heard of this or can shed some more light on if this will occur for the upcoming new soccer year or the accuracy in the rumors?

So you are saying back to school year rather than birth year? I've heard nothing of this, but my DS is a late fall birthday, so it would mean mostly new teammates.... again...

Correct! I have heard this from several people. I personally wouldn’t mind but I know my child will.

Changing it back will cause as much of an uproar as changing it the first time did. It would be stupid to change it again.

If they are changing it, they should try to protect the younger of the age group. They should bracket the kids in to three four month age groups.

From coaches and people above my pay grade. It is rumored to happen as soon as this coming season. I do agree there will be an uproar however, really what what would everyone do? US soccer is a huge business that runs based on that. I don’t think they care what soccer parents want or “feel” they base it on what they feel is best for the over all business and how it effects there pockets or “development of the player” ? people might be upset but then what? Bottom line is everyone will do what is told for them to do because everyone’s child is the next Mia Hamm, right? ??

For Birth Year, clubs ask for a copy of birth certificates or passports. For Grade Year, what do clubs ask to see to verify?

It's not what grade they are in, it's that the year will be August 1 - July 31st, insteat of Jan 1 - Dec 31st.

What’s the point? Travel soccer is not about playing with your friends. The move was made to align with the rest of the world.

My kid has a late Fall Bday and 3/4s of his team will graduate a year ahead of him. I think it should always have followed school calendar.

Why would this be an improvement? A cut off is a cut off. Some kids will fall on either side of it whatever date it is.
