Likelihood of Having Contracted HIV?

Anonymous
Five years ago I slept with a manwhore a couple of times. One time he inserted his penis without asking first and I made him stop and put a condom on. The second time we did not use a condom. I suddenly developed a weird anxiety that I contracted HIV from this? I have never had an HIV test and am wondering if I should just take one. he never ejaculated in me and I know the transmission rate is very low for this but I am still anxious. I do get colds pretty frequently but I bounce back quickly and I haven't had a yeast infection since 2015. Only get swollen glands if I have a cold...I'm probably fine, right?

Just get a test.

Likelihood is small but get a test so you can stop stewing.

Chances of having HIV are super low. However chances that you have anxiety that needs treatment are near 100%.

What is the likelihood of being asymptomatic? I know it is possible but I just think after five years surely something would bring it to a doctor’s attention. Blood work, an infection, etc.

Didn't you post this already?

A few years ago after the birth of my first son I watched a documentary about HIV and developed a huge sudden fear I had contracted it years ago, passed it to my newborn, etc ...even emailed my OB asking if I’ve been tested.

I’m on Zoloft now for anxiety lol.

How often do you get blood drawn? I would assume if you had five years of untreated HIV, you would have much lower cell counts.

Yes, but did you have unprotected sex? I did and I can't believe I was so fcking stupid. I was going through some stuff and it turned out that guy was cheating on his gf with me - now I have a great life, am in therapy for my self-esteem, have a wonderful boyfriend. I'm terrified I caught HIV from this man (who appears to be doing fine, is getting married to someone else and has literally no indication of having late-stage HIV) and I'm going to lose everything I've worked for in the last five years.

I had my blood drawn a year ago for something unrelated and everything was fine. That being said, I don't think regular blood tests detect HIV.

Yes I did with several men.

Update: I am reading now about gynecologic conditions in women with HIV. They often get HPV, which I had last year but it cleared up on its own, and yeast infections, which I haven't gotten in five years. Also they are not supposed to get IUDs because of pelvic infections and increased blood loss - I have an IUD and no complications.

I just can't believe I was so stupid. this man was not worth it and now my anxiety is making me cry on Christmas. I will go get a test when I get back to DC (one of those gum swabs you can take at home) but the anxiety is so bad right now.

They always test as part of standard prenatal tests, because if the mother has HIV, there's a process to be followed to ensure the baby does not get it during childbirth.

I've had unprotected sex with a few women who had not had sex with anyone since being pregnant, as I always knew they'd be clean (and I had tested clean). No pregnancy concerns since I have a vasectomy.

Again, one would assume having something they tell women with HIV to not get because of potential complications, and then not getting complications would be a good sign. Surely untreated HIV + an IUD would lead to some problems that you seem to not have?
