People who log their food

Anonymous
I started logging about a month ago and it’s been great. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t want to break a good streak and have been able to motivate myself into making better choices so I don’t break my streak (sticker charts would have worked well for me as a kid!). For the first time since I started I’m attending a social event where I won’t really be able to log accurately, nor do I want to be counting bites. Do you normally forego that day? Just estimate even though you know you’ll be way off?

I do a cheat day or a fast that AM so I can enjoy myself reasonably at the event. I have IBS so I’m not going to consume 3000 calories of fat and sugar and alcohol in one sitting anyway. Not unless I want to get ill and have to leave.

I log in more generally ahead of the party then try to stick with it. Doesn't always work but better than getting out of the habit and taking two weeks to get back.

I log approximately.

I log approximately. I don't want to count bites, so I put whatever I plan to eat on the plate, and don't go for seconds. That allows me to log it more accurately, and keep me from overeating.

I will do one of three things:

1. Serve one plate of food and estimate the total number of calories (and not eat anything else).

2. Estimate and log calories for everything that enters my mouth (this is not practical or convenient, especially in a party setting).

3. Just have a cheat day (and make up for it the next day by either eating less or exercising more).

I do whatever feels right. Sometimes that means logging but knowing that I'm going to bust my calorie budget and that's ok. Sometimes it means not logging that day. One day of indulgence isn't a big deal.

OP here - just to be clear - I’m not asking about what to eat. I just won’t know the count, and I’m fine with that. I was just wondering if you guys just fill the day with an estimate you know is wrong or whether you leave it blank.

An estimate is not necessarily wrong, it is just that - approximate I have been tracking calories for almost 1.5 year so now I can estimate how many calories I consumed pretty accurately.

Besides, I don't eat as much as I used to, even at parties, I eat everything I like but I just don't want to feel stuffed like I used to. So there's not an awful lot of food to remember to track.

I hate to skip a day without tracking because, first, I may start skipping even more days, and second, because then LoseIt won't give me an estimate as to by what date I may reach my desired weight

Another vote for estimate. I try to over estimate by a little if I’m really not certain.
