| DC overthinks on standardized tests and his score doesn’t reflect his ability or knowledge. Is there someone who is especially good at this kind of test prep? 12 hours with a standard tutor at a big, local company didn’t help so a specific name of a tutor who has helped in this way would be ideal. Thank you. |

So helpful. $175 an hour x12 plus outside work and practice tests. How many hours of tutoring does it take if the kid already has the knowledge? |

I actually think this is the best idea since he knows the material. No one can teach him not to overthink. He just has to build his own feeling for it with practice. Our DC also "knew the material". She benefited from the 12 hour deal but only because the tutor had specially designed tests with harder questions. Once she knew she could get 800s on the harder questions, the 1600 on test day was easy. If you want to, you can pay DS $175 for each hour of testing he takes if he isn't inclined to do them on his own.

| Our overthinker just did a lot of practice tests from the books you can buy on Amazon, and some on the online practice from SAT (first) and then ACT(DC decided this worked better for him). He went over the answers in the books which may have helped show the kind of thinking they're after. He was not in favor of a tutor but there are a lot out there. What grade is your kid, OP? Experience with AP tests over time also helps with overthinking. |

DC (Junior) has not yet done any test prep. Most recent PSAT score was 1480 (supposedly equates to a 1540 SAT score). Sample SAT last year (offered by a training school hoping to sign up students) was 1520. So it appears reasonable that DC will score above a 1500 at the "real" SAT and are looking to sign up for a prep class so DC can take the SAT in March or May and be "one and done".
We looked at school in Chantilly that promises a minimum score of 1520.. Come to find out the fees was $4800 for 18 full-day classes!!!. Holy SH*T! Are there any other reasonable options? DC does not really need this level of prep but want to get as close to 1600 as possible? Are there other online/in-class prep centers that others have tried and improved the score of someone at DC's level? Thanks! |

Not a troll. DC's score is NOT 1520 yet, just the PSAT equivalent is. Why not put in the effort to maximize outcome and get as high as score as possible? What's wrong with that? We already have to deal with enough disadvantages in the college process.. |

I have to disagree. A good experienced tutor can pin point weaknesses even for high performing kids |

Not my experience. My very bright but very average processing speed kid got a 1490 on the first try with no prep at all. |
