At what age would you feel comfortable with your child riding an Uber?

I have 3 kids and increasingly more difficult to drive kids. DH has a busy schedule and I can’t be at 3 places at once. We already have a nanny and I am still struggling. I have an 11 year old DS. My friends in nyc let their kids ride buses and subways. Is it ok to get him an Uber once in a while?

I would not be comfortable with an Uber. I think the metro and subways are different because it’s not a one on one situation.

I'd let my 11 year old ride the DC bus and metro before uber/lyft alone. I used the bus/subway as a younger kid but not cabs alone until an older teen (cabs with friends starting around 13).

Uber just did a huge study about all of the sexual assaults and other issues in Uber’s. It was sobering.

Find some friends/carpools, OP! We carpool for everything!

Is that really sobering? It's 6,000 out of 3 billion. That's .0002%

I'd say that's acceptable risk.

Previous posters are crazy. My kids are not going in one by themselves if they are minors. End of story.

i almost thought OP was a troll because of the huge Uber article yesterday and today.

OP, we went to a drug talk a couple years ago and the police were there; and I got into a discussion with them about Ubering and kids. They said it's pretty dangerous and underreported; they don't know why it doesn't make the headlines more.

I'm in Los Angeles so getting my kids anywhere has been really tough. I know parents who have hired drivers for their kids. It sucks. But this year my older teen is driving and I got another car and it's been great, (although I was pretty nervous at first). We did extra professional lessons, and she's become a very good driver-better than me, and I'm pretty good!

2 billion, and I notice it was unclear if that was US only rides or Uber rides worldwide?
