It seems MD has sone big proposals that lack adequate detail to determine pros/cons. Or maybe, I just don’t know where to look to find details? Please recommend site to learn specific plans and details.
For example, widening Beltway/270. The revenue details seem somewhat sorted out but the plan for what it may look like (e.g., number of lanes, width of lanes, impact on car traffic or metro). Also, the purple line (more well developed but exact details are where?) and the MCPS school boundary study. |

Hogan SUCKS.
That’s what you need to know. |
| The Purple Line is being built right now, and you can find more information at https://www.purplelinemd.com/ |
Thank you for your well-developed, nuanced analysis. |
Well, I guess that's the end of the thread. We've clearly heard from a genius. |

For the highway widening, the plans aren't detailed yet as that's the next phase of the project. As I recall, generally for the Am Legion bridge they will add 2 lanes each way, plus a bike lane. My guess is they'll convert the existing rigth-most "exit-only" lanes (like to Clara Barton) to thru lanes as a way to get more space.
As for Hogan, he got the Purple Line on track, and he's working on solutions to 495/270 issues. That's more progress-wise than his predecessor and same with anyone at the MoCo-level. The MoCo people in power are pretty good about complaining about any plan Hogan proposes, but never offering a real alternative. One of Elrich's counter-proposals to solve the 495 problem was to tell people to use the ICC instead. Yes, the road that's been open 10 years -- does he think that Google Maps' GPS isn't already sending people that way, and it's just some secret road no one has ever heard of? |
This is an incredibly non-fact-based statement. Here's what Hogan did: 1. He didn't stop the Purple Line 2. He cut the budget for the Purple Line |
Your “facts” pack any real analysis or critical thinking. Hogan secured federal funding for it. His “cuts” made the entire line possible. https://marylandreporter.com/2017/08/28/democrats-laud-hogan-as-they-celebrate-purple-line-start/ |
Too bad for you he's literally one of the most popular governors in the entire country. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/articles/2019-07-19/the-most-popular-and-least-popular-governors You Hogan hater bellyachers are always the loudest but are vastly, vastly outnumbered. |
No, he did not secure the federal funding for it. He was governor when the federal funding was allocated. He signed the agreement. And his cuts (actual cuts) removed lots of things that people would have liked to have had - including, ironically, the grass tracks that the long-time Purple Line opponents in the Town of Chevy Chase wanted. |

Op how do you lump in boundary changes - local county issue - with complaints about Hogan?
|
|
OP what exactly are you looking for and why can't you find it? The PL was literally debated for 20 yrs! There's been a ton of discussion on pros and cons.
All these local political issues have strong proponents on both sides. If you want more information about any of them, all you have to do is engage in some basic research. Start with local news sources; read the positions from advocacy groups on both sides as well as government decision makers (County Council, BOE, state reps etc.) Make up your own mind and if you are so moved, you can find a way to weigh in on one side or another (write letters, engage with advocacy groups, go to public meetings, etc.) Fwiw the PL is under construction now, and so you're probably not going to find much success in trying to influence the eventual outcome although if you feel strongly about particular aspects (sound reduction, bike trail amenities) you might find a way to constructively influence the process. The other two issues are less settled so more opportunity for citizen views. |
| Boundary study does not equal a plan to change change boundaries. The study will determine what if any tweaks would be beneficial. The proposals would still need to go through a few phases before implementation. We live in the DCC. Our neighborhood ES was proposed for a change shortly after I became pregnant with my younger child. The change didn’t take place until she was already in K elsewhere. |

“ Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) canceled this week’s meeting of the Board of Public Works late Saturday amid a growing public feud with state comptroller Peter Franchot, whose vote he needs on the board for his plan to add toll lanes to the Capital Beltway and Interstate 270.
The board was expected to vote as early as Wednesday on the latest changes to Hogan’s proposal. The governor needs the board’s approval before the state may begin soliciting private companies to build the lanes and finance their construction as part of one of the largest public-private partnerships in the country.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/maryland-gov-hogan-cancels-expected-vote-on-toll-lane-plan-for-i-270-beltway/2019/12/15/2f73d2a6-1f3d-11ea-bed5-880264cc91a9_story.html |
Go Hogan! Build as much as you can, as fast as you can... we're making up for the last 40 years! |
