Breaking now!
12-0 to expell Evans, final vote in the next few weeks. Jack is cooked. |
| Wait, WHAT!!!!!!!! |
|
From the post: All 12 of D.C. Council member Jack Evans’s colleagues voted Tuesday to recommend expelling him from the body over ethics violations, an extraordinary step and the first time lawmakers ever removed one of their own from office.
The D.C. Council took the step in response to a series of investigations finding that Evans used his public office to benefit businesses that paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars in consulting fees. Tuesday’s vote is the first step for expulsion. The step was so novel that the council and staff members spent several minutes poring over the rules to try to figure out next steps. It was agreed that the council would need to reconvene no sooner than one week to hold a hearing before casting a formal vote to remove Evans. |
| Did not expect a 12-0 vote! |
This is a classic Phil Mendelson play. He can seem slow to act, even passive at times, but he lets things play out a bit and builds the votes. Then he makes his move. It’s important that he forged consensus on this. Now will Evans take the hint and resign before he is formally expelled ? |
| Yay. He is a dirty politician, and DC deserves better |
| Good riddance. |
|
Well finally. |
| Hot damn. This is the best news I’ve had all day. |

| He should resign. |
| I've been waiting for this moment for over 20 years. I'm going to have a drink. |
| They didn’t vote to expel. They voted to recommend expelling him. Big difference. |
It's the first step. |

I have no doubt this sort of corruption goes on all the time.
Look at the way Virginia facilitates development at the local and state levels, then sticks taxpayers with infrastructure costs. Someone needs to do an investigative report and expose the rats. The classic fox in the chicken coop syndrome. |
