I want something that will last. Girls currently are 6 and 4 and they have a small-medium size room. It could fit either twins or bunks or a full (or I guess a twin over full). Right now they’re sharing a full bed, which is sweet but one of them is always cold and the other is always hot. What do teens like? I remember in college my roommate and I didn’t like bunks because it was hard to lounge around if your bed was on top. |
We have two twins with just a headboard and base that allows for a lot of storage under the beds. I think the two beds work better/ longer than bunk beds.
|
Two twins with storage underneath, definitely. |
My DDs are 6 and 4 and they are in bunk beds that can also be used as two single twin beds in the future. Their room is pretty small and this maximizes floor space right now, and also allows for storage under the bottom bunk. |
Two twins sounds best to me. Get them each their own comforters if they are sharing a full bed right now. That way the one who is cold can have her own blankets and the one that is warm can toss them off. Heck, that is what my husband and I do. We share a bed but we each have our own comforters and top sheets. Different fill levels for each of us based on our comfort levels. And no fighting over the covers. |
Oh man yes, get them their own beds! Two twins. Bunk them if you want for now, but have a loose plan of how you'd unbunk them in the future if they want some private space. |
If you're looking for something that will get them through the teen years, think about whether they will need desks in the room at any point. You could do a twin bunk that would make room for two small desks, or two loft beds with storage/play/desk space for each underneath.
The lofts would have the advantage of giving them each their own personal space within the room, which they could even curtain off if they needed quiet time on their own. And you could switch out furnishings over the years as their individual interests develop: bookshelves and beanbags, art and display spaces, futon for lounging with friends, computer desks, etc. |
Hopefully they won't still be sharing a room when they are teens. |
Own twin beds. Lofts are not safe at that age. |
Why not? What is wrong with sisters sharing a room? |
Full over full bunk beds also exist. |
Absolutely nothing but DCUM thinks any lifestyle other than upper middle class in 4K sq ft is basically abuse |
I have two girls the same age and they have bunkable twin beds that are seperate for now. However they often sleep in the same bed. It works out well. |
This is so sweet! My girls are 2.5 and 3 months old now so no way I'm putting them in a room together, lol. But I can't wait to do it someday. |
![]() My house is only 1100 sq ft but each kid has their own room. My kids were fine sharing when we lived in smaller apartments until the oldest hit puberty. Kids are under a huge amount of stress now that is just not like when we were kids. They need space to be by themselves when they get to be teens. Head over the teen board and you will see. |
