Naps after baby can stand in crib

Anonymous
Ten month old was a decent napper until last week when she discovered she can stand up in her crib. Now she will do that and absolutely howl, I think she's over tired but can figure out how to lie back down. We've tried giving her time to figure it out on her own, and we've also tried going in, putting her back down and patting her (this enrages her.) So now we've fallen back into the bad habit of holding her till she falls asleep.

Any tips? Worried about reinforcing this bad habit and now I don't know how to break it.

If you’re saying that she literally hasn’t figured out how to get back out of the standing position, then you’re going to have to teach her how. Don’t just lay her down. Every time she gets fussy in a standing position, you need to press gently on the backs of her knees so that she bends and goes down on her knees. She’s too afraid to fall, so you need to show her an easy way to get out of the standing position that isn’t scary. I have a super cautious child who needed me to do this for her. It lasted 2-3 days and then she started doing it herself and was fine.

I gently pushed my kid over in their crib so they would get over the fear of falling. It was more controlled and I was watching to make sure they just fell on their bottom. After being stunned a couple of times they realized it wasn’t scary and would sit back on their own.

My son does this....he's definitely not afraid of falling because he's been standing for a while and falls constantly. He will just stand in his crib and cry for an hour and not sit down once. He knows how to sit, he just doesn't want to go to sleep alone.
I don't have any advice, I'm here for some lol.

Wait until your child starts bouncing on the mattress like a trampoline and bounces out of the crib!

You need to lower the mattress to the lowest position if they can pull to a stand.

If they are human cannonballs, time to transition to a toddler bed or mattress on floor.

This usually only lasts a day or two until they figure out how to lay back down. Standing up is an exciting new skill for now, but baby will get over the novelty and back to normal soon.
