Ten month old was a decent napper until last week when she discovered she can stand up in her crib. Now she will do that and absolutely howl, I think she's over tired but can figure out how to lie back down. We've tried giving her time to figure it out on her own, and we've also tried going in, putting her back down and patting her (this enrages her.) So now we've fallen back into the bad habit of holding her till she falls asleep. Any tips? Worried about reinforcing this bad habit and now I don't know how to break it.
If you’re saying that she literally hasn’t figured out how to get back out of the standing position, then you’re going to have to teach her how. Don’t just lay her down. Every time she gets fussy in a standing position, you need to press gently on the backs of her knees so that she bends and goes down on her knees. She’s too afraid to fall, so you need to show her an easy way to get out of the standing position that isn’t scary. I have a super cautious child who needed me to do this for her. It lasted 2-3 days and then she started doing it herself and was fine.
