Anyone been to zoo lights over thanksgiving weekend before? I'm thinking it might be less crowded since so many people are out of town. Thoughts? |
I want to go but I’m debating the crowds
It’s opening weekend though |
I think it will be crazy. I live by the zoo and parking was scarce tonight. Even when we drove by the lower lot around 3 pm it was packed, and it's generally empty. |
OP here and we ended up going. It worked out perfectly. When we arrived at about 4:30, people were leaving from the zoo closing around 4, so there were plenty of parking spots.
We got in line for the "ride" tickets at like 4:40 and were able to do a few tube rides + the carousel within the first 25 minutes and then we just enjoyed walking around after that. Home by 6:15 for dinner. It was a beautiful night. |
We went tonight. Got there at 5, walked around for 1.5 hours. It got crowded towards the end, but nothing unbelievable. It gets dark fast so keep the kids close so you can find them. Parking lot was full by 630pm. We didnt do the slides or carousel but they looked like 15min lines, also not bad.

We ended up going to ZooLights tonight it was overcrowded and pretty dangerous. It wasn’t really family friendly. Teenagers were lighting off firecrackers, fighting and cursing. It didn’t seem like security could handle the crowds. |
There was also people guns shooting. |
No gun shots. Just fireworks |
https://wjla.com/news/local/zoolights-closes-early No confirmed shots IN the zoo, at least. |
Gun shots. A teen was shot. |
Damn. |
News articles seem to say otherwise. Can you link to article that says teen was shot inside zoo? |
2 teens were shot outside the zoo, one around Connecticut & Cathedral and one near Biltmore.
I know that they usually put in metal detectors and do bag checks around Easter due to violence in the past, maybe they will need to do so for Zoolights, or have an admission charge? |
