The Irishman (Netflix)

We only got about an hour into this last night but it is top notch! Fantastic cast and great story. I think this will win a lot of awards.

Kind of an interesting release on this movie. It was in the theaters for a month and now released on Netflix.

Netflix has been releasing some of their higher end films in theaters first in order to qualify for award consideration. There was an article this week about them buying their own theater in NYC and attempting to close on one in L.A. to guarantee they'll be able to show their films.

I thought Al Pacino was excellent.

Kind of long. So I'm glad I didn't see it in theatres.

Also I'm surprised this has been cancelled because t has triggered millennials.

I was disappointed. It was waaaay too long. Also, the whole movie feels so familiar - the guy who got in with the mob and rose through the ranks. They have good lives for a while, then face conflict, go to jail and then a few end up growing old. The rest get whacked. It’s like every other mafia movie - and I generally like those movies which is why I was excited to watch this one.

That said, Pacino and Pesci were excellent. I also liked seeing so many other well-known actors in various roles.

I would add it hasn’t been cancelled. I tuned it in just now to check. Stupid post.

I can’t wait! I’m so looking forward to seeing it this long, lazy weekend!

Most of the press I've read has been positive. I haven't read any think pieces calling it problematic or emblematic of white privilege.

Tried to watch last night but got bored. Not of the characters are particularly appealing or interesting.

Couldn't get into it either. Score was distracting too.

I was into it until I paused it at the one hour mark and realized I still had over two hours to go. From that point on, it just played in the background while I did other things. Not bad, but very familiar like someone else pointed out.

The ending is very depressing. Nothing romantic about old broke frail gangsters dying alone.
