What do you/would you pay an overnight babysitter who will work for 24 hours in your home, from 5 pm - 5 pm the following day? Two kids, 4 and 6. Thanks. |
No less than $400. |
+1. |
Yep $400 is about right. Sorry. It’s why we never go away without kids. |
Paid regular hourly rate during awake hours.
Then perhaps a minimum $100 flat fee for overnight. |
We pay about $400 from Friday after school to Sunday evening.
People jump for easy money like that |
Not easy money if the kids are awake. My older DD used to babysit kids overnight. The kids were in fed, bathed, and pjs. All she had to do was read a story and tuck them in. The mom returned in the morning and got the kids up. It was $100. |
No sitters I know are jumping at the prospect of giving up their weekend for $10/hour. |
Easy money? Watching children is a HUGE responsibility, nothing easy about it. |
+1 I couldn’t agree more. Working as a Nanny is tougher than raising your own children. Because of liability issues. |
As a nanny I charge $100 flat rate for the 8pm-8am period and my normal hourly rate for anything before and after that. |
I ask trusted friends and don’t pay. I’m lucky I have a fabulous network of friends who are willing to help out. I’m also willing to help them, and do, so there’s no hurt feelings. |
They do in our area. We are not in DC. |
Then why are you replying on a D parenting board if you experience isn’t relevant? |
It’s no longer just a DC parenting board and hasn’t been for a long time. Look at the forum index. Or better yet, ask Jeff. —DP |
