I sent in a bunch of scrap gold and silver and still have not heard back. I am going to call withj my tracking number tonight but was wondering if anyone else has had luck with them or if I'm screwed. I sent my envelope in 2 weeks ago and was told I should have a reponse about a week after they recieve my envelope.
Thanks! |

I remember seeing a news-bit on them, and they didn't seem like total scams - the type that steal your stuff - buy maybe don't always give you full value.
This is the busiest time of year for mail, so lots of stuff will take longer. Throw in the storm, and that could delay things further. But do try to track it. Then you can see if it is still going through the mail (or UPS or FedEX) or it has been delivered. |
| My friend works at a bank and said someone brought in a check from one of those stores for 16.32. And they had sent a bunch of jewlery I guess. I would never do it |
|
I work for a jeweler who weighed $299 worth of gold, sent it in to Cash for Gold just to see. A month later, he got a check for $17.85.
I think 60 minutes did a huge expose on them as well. Total. Ripoff. You're much better shopping it around to local jewelers and getting the best price. |

Washington Post just did an article on this- they echoed what PP's wrote. You are better off going to a jeweler.
I read in the comments to that article that you are even better off going to a precious metals collector, but not sure where to find one of those. I called three jewelers and asked them to give me their prices per pennyweight for various karat types and then went to the highest one. |
What type of jewelers did you call? The kind in the shopping malls or the smaller independant ones? |
| Mine were delivered to them 3 weeks ago and I haven't been paid yet. They are delaying my payment keep saying that they have technical problems with my paypal account, but never tell me what problem it is. Today, they finally told me that they issued a check and I have to wait until it is delivered to me. I made 4 phone calls plus requested a return via email. They keep telling me to wait until the check is delivered to me. I just want to get my jewelry back. I have a feeling that this is going to be a long battle. I completely regret sending my jewelry to them. |

There's a place on Rockville Pike - across from White Flint (to the right heading S) - that will give you money for your gold.
I turned in tons, as did my cousin. And together we got about $2000 in cash on the spot. Sorry, OP - but who mails in gold? |
|
I can't believe the people who offer cash for gold by mail could be a scam!
Can no one be trusted any more? Next you will tell be the ShamWow guy is some kind of perp, or that "Set it and forget it" cannot be taken literally. |
| I'm going to sue!!! |
Just seeing this now. I called one in the mall and two independent stores. I don't think Zales / Kay even does it on site, so didn't bother with them. Got better prices from independent stores. Still want to hear if anyone knows of a precious metals dealer. |

A friend bought "set it and forget it" and he said half the instructions were about not forgetting it! |
| The person who wrote the "Can anyone be trusted anymore?" is ignorant and needs to be more sensitve to people who have been done wrong. I haven't personally done business with any of these scams but if I got hard up enough and didn't know it was a scam I'd probably do it. Grow up please. |
I disagree. Someone who falls for this should not be in charge of their own finances. If it wasn't this it would be a Nigerian businessman or some such. |
