How long did you wipe your kid’s butt?

Our 5.75 year old still wants us to wipe her butt when she poops. She potty trained early so it’s starting to feel a bit ridiculous. Normal or time to say no.

You can’t let a kid walk around with a smelly butt. I think we helped our son at least occasionally until he was about six. We kept wet wipes in every bathroom.

She trained you early on. That’s for sure. It’s 3 years past ridiculous.

You know the answer. Stop wiping her butt. There are 3 year olds capable of this if you let them work on it without freaking out.

For about 5 minutes, give or take

Just stall and tell her to try herself til the paper is white, then you will come. After a few times of this she should be OK.

Nope, this assumes they’re wiping correctly. My kid has a bubble butt and the cheeks get in the way, so she can wipe and wipe and never actually get “in there” enough.

OP, mine is just turned 4 and I have her wipe then I check. It’s still inconsistent so I keep checking. Better than skid marks, though make sure you have her try first.

Teach bubble butt to stand up and squat; she can face the toilet and lean on the seat if necessary. Alternatively teach her to stand, bend knees, wipe with one hand while holding butt cheek with the other. She’ll get to the good stuff on her own.

Both kids until 7 at least. I mean they always attempted first but would get red itchy butts if we didn’t follow up until at least age 7.

Never fear both are normal proficient butt wipers at 9 and 12. This too shall pass.

Every kid is different. My son was 8, my daughter was 5. We keep wet wipes in the bathroom.

We are training our 3 year old on how to use a bidet. Hoping that will help. It’s one of the ones you just attach to your existing toilet.

Ew. What do these poor kids do at school? I taught kindergarten and would never in a million years help a five year old wipe. My own kids did a good job wiping by about 3.

Nothing could possibly go wrong with that situation!

I wipe behind my 4-year old just because. A lot of times he does a great job and there is nothing to wipe but sometimes ...

If it bothers you, stop it. I wouldn’t do it for a 6 year-old.

My 5 year old does a first try and I help him if it’s a particularly messy one.
