We're having friends and their kids over next weekend. It'll be 4 adults and 5 kids. What's a good one-pot creation I can make?

In the winter, most of the meals I make are either one pot or one pan items. Here are a few things that I like to make:

Hearty Soups:
- Beef, mushroom, and barley
- Pasta fagioli
- Classic bean soup
- White bean and kale soup
- Caldo verde

Stews:
- Beef, lamb, or pork (a tough cut that can stand up to hours of braising - chuck, shoulder, shanks, etc...) braised with carrots, onions, celery, garlic, some tomato or tomato paste, a splash of wine or vinegar. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta.
- Hunter style chicken - chicken braised with peppers, mushroom, onions, garlic, and tomato sauce. Serve with a starch.
- Chicken with cabbage - this one doesn't sound very delicious, but oh my, it is so good. Sear some chicken pieces. Take out the chicken and in the same pot add lots of onions, a bit of bacon and garlic, and a whole mess of chopped cabbage, a splash of vinegar. Season with sweet paprika, salt, pepper. Add chicken pieces back in and braise until chicken is done and cabbage is tender.

Oven Roasts:
- Roast chicken with potatoes, carrots (and other root vegetables like parsnips, turnips, rutabagas, etc.). Put a whole chicken in the pan surrounded by the vegetable chunks. Season the whole thing with rosemary, salt, pepper, olive oil, and squeezed lemon. Roast at 425. Take chicken out when done to let rest and leave veggies in for some additional time.
- Roast lamb - same as above, except with lamb.

i like turkey chili - rachael ray's indian summer chili is good (no beans which I personally can't stand -- grainy texture, ew) or jambalaya. also, i like belgian beer stew. I've never made it, but it's good.
