Langley High School

Please forgive me if this has been already discussed.
I was wondering why does Langley not send kids to HYPS if it’s second best school in this area.
Do all good kids go to TJ or do colleges prefer to get so many from this area and they pick most from TJ.
I assume some good kids prefer to stay in Langley rather than drive that far to TJ.
Maryland public schools like Walt Whitman are able to. Is it because MD doesn’t have equivalent of TJ.

Who says they don’t? Are you looking at any specific data? My guess is they are sending a number in line with the stats of the kids there.

UVA and W&M are much cheaper and leave more $$ for grad school.

Here is the list from 2017 but should be representative of where Langley's seniors go.

I have college age kids who graduated from Langley and I came to this same conclusion. There’s just too much bang for your buck to pass up UVA or W&M.

This is such a good information. I wish we had the same for NOVA.

Most people who live in Langley/Mclean and their kids go to HYPS do not attend public schools. Most of them send their kids to Potomac, St. Albans, Sidwell, NCS, Holton, etc...

Middle class families in Langley send their kids to Langley HS.

Yes but since you can apply to both of those and HYPS as well, there should be some admissions data.

I agree but I am wondering if those middle class students get to go to HYPS. There is very less data out there for Langley or Mclean but I do hear that Langley is tough academic wise. Not as much as TJ though which is a STEM school.

Huh. I see not only HYP on the Langley list, but also CIT, Williams, WUSL, UPenn, UNC Chapel Hill, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgetown, Northwestern, and more. So I really have no idea what the OP is talking about.

Do you realize how big Langley and McLean are compared to those schools? Combined, they have about 5000 students.

Potomac upper schoo has about 500
St. Albans has 600 total
Sidwell Upper School has 500

and so forth. Most families in McLean send their students to the public schools.

Most apply ED, so they don’t apply as much to HYPS.
