I think people are so passionate about this because we feel tricked. I’ve been a Jen fan since way back. She presented herself as one of us. Just an average, middle class mom, doing her best to raise her kids to love people and love God. And she was so funny and relatable! Her main message was: reject materialism, be content with what you have, and live a simpler life.

Then she started to gain popularity, and we cheered along with her. Watched every episode of her HGTV show. Scanned the audience at the CMA Awards. One of US got to see and do the coolest stuff! YAY!!!

Somewhere along the way….we all started getting yelled at.
We weren’t doing enough about the southern border!!! Children were being pulled from their mothers and we should all be outraged! (And we agreed! That is terrible!)
But, what about social justice?!?! WE (all white women) need to shut up and listen to black voices! We need to address our supremacy!!! (Yes! We should listen! But then we realize…does Jen have any black friends? Does Jen employ any black people in all of her endeavors? Why do we never see her - or her black adopted children - with other black people, ever?)
And what about the most evil of all evil things?!?! WHITE MEN! They must be stopped! (And we look around at our husbands, and fathers, and sons, and think, “I see wonderful, supportive, protective, kind, leaders. They aren’t evil at all.)
The cherry on top for me was comparing Trump supporters to Judas. As in the man that sold out Jesus Christ. I’m not a Trump supporter, per se. But I was a Trump voter. His policies aligned more with my families’ priorities than Biden’s. I am not Judas. I just exercised my right to vote, and to have an opinion.

Not to mention that during all of this, she started to sell us stuff? (“But what about living more simply and being content?!” we cried.)

After that - she got divorced, forgot all about the border, social justice, and politics. But she’s still shilling fabfitfun boxes and begging us to buy things with her discount codes. She wants us all to see her fabulous (expensive) outfits, her legs, and her SO MANY friends!. She wants us all to know that we don’t need husbands to be happy. We just need credit cards and trips to Broadway.

We were either tricked or greed and materialism got the best of her. Either way, we’re sad.

You voted for a man who spurred an insurrection and actively tried to steal an election. Yes, you are.

Ok.

I love that her online class is called “ME COURSE” because everything she does now screams “all about ME!” So now she’s going to teach others to be narcissists too? No thanks.

One of the MeCourse’s is on “Simplicity”. This is rich coming from the queen of promo code shilling - crappy fast fashion, wine, overpriced bags. Jen totally vets the vendors, guys, so you know she’s looking out for your best interest.

These influencers really do have zero self awareness.

I was also in on Jen way back. In my little corner of the world we were total Jen fans. Went to see her speak, did all her Bible studies in our moms groups etc. We LOVED her and how relatable and funny and God honoring she was. We all wanted to be like her and loved her insights about mothering, following Jesus...all of it.

It was awkward when she pivoted about being Gay affirming. I mean she deleted posts and all evidence of her former way of thinking. I know someone who knows her and at the time she said "I bet one of her kids is gay." Sure enough...

But even that was whatever. It was big news in the Christian world but a lot of us who didn't agree Biblically totally understood it from a mom's perspective. But she went all in on how long they had studied it and examined it from the Biblical perspective....like 12 weeks. Just say our kid is gay and this has rocked our world and has made us reexamine our faith. FINE! Awesome. (and the fact that fighting for the dignity and identity of gay people is ever even a christian issue is terrible and horrific). But I was happy for the strides she made in making Christians examine how they saw gay people. She made some pretty conservative folks have to come face to face with loving like Jesus. Awesome.

I totally got her Trump and social justice stuff. Trump is abhorrent as a person and leader and she called him out, at great personal cost. Again, she helped a lot of christian women who otherwise wouldn't have had access to a worldview to criticize a republican have a voice.

I loved that she challenged the whole Christian=GOP way of thinking.
As well as speaking up for Black Lives Matter and other marginalized groups. Awesome. She spoke into a void where other christian women were not speaking.

And then....................

She's no better now than Hollis or whoever else. She's a better writer and naturally funnier but her content sucks. It's shilling and self promotion.

She used to make her money off her TALENT. Writing. Speaking about topics that were relevant and interesting. Now she's like every other influencer. Trying not to do any work and make a lot of money off her large follower base. I can't think of the last spiritual point or insight she made. It's all vapid narcissism and money making. There's a lot of stuff still happening in our world and especially in the Christian sphere and it's crazy that she is silent on all of it.

The old Jen would love all this discussion about deconstructing the faith and unspooling all the old Christian American Nationalist way of thinking. This is her jam. But instead we get buy my earrings and Yay look at my vespa and singing 80's songs. whoop whoop

Jen is a lot smarter and more savvy than Rachel Hollis. I doubt that Jen would ever flake out spectacularly like Rachel did with ToiletGate but she’s just as narcissistic and scheming and self-serving and phony as she is. It’s all about fake and money with these two.

Thankfully, they are both on the backside of their careers.

Doesn't she realize that she's providing her husband with all of the evidence he'd need to make a case for taking the kids away from her?

She's basically putting it out there in print that they're on their own from here on out, which doesn't seem like a very wise decision (not to mention that her kids will probably read these Instagram posts one day and feel badly/guilty, because she's implying the kids (and everything else you related to them) make her miserable.

Sounds like a mood disorder.

Pretty sure her kids are mostly 18+. I think the youngest are 15 and 17.

And surely she can just escape the kids and go wherever she wants! She has time to escape to Walmart or whatever for a breather. Seriously don’t think the burnout can be that strong here. She has money, looks, and a lot of desperate followers who still worship her. We already know she didn’t schedule well visits since she was so over that just a couple weeks ago. Lol - I don’t get all the fatigue. Hold it together, girl!

Yup. She acts like she has a house full of young kids at home and she doesn’t. I think that it’s been her shtick for so long that she doesn’t know how to move on.

She's gonna milk the Messy Bun Get 'Er Done thing until it's a self parody. Adult kids and teens shouldn't be objects of ridicule, even when it's done in a 'cute' way. It's not a good look and probably makes them feel like losers.

Oh, hiya Jen! 👋
We were wondering when you'd join us.

Here's a piece of advice from, well... everyone at DCUM.

Get. Yourself. Together. Girl -- you're looking hella crazy.

What happened to you??

Whatever this "thing" is that you're doing now, it isn't cute, genuine or palatable.
It's just sad.

Remember this, everything you post on the internet stays online FOR-E-VER... that means forever, forever for your kids to read it.

Very soon in your near future, your "poor me" grift is going to wane thin on people... and you're going to be seen for exactly what you were all along... pathetic.

Signed,
A former follower (and dare I say fan).
