It's interesting that most people who live in Norway are ethnic Norwegians. (over 90%)

And that they're socialists.

The Irish got NOTHING during the famine, not even surplus potatoes from England. If you gave the Irish billions in aid during the famine they'd be a G7 nation right now.

Don’t be ridiculous. The English would have stolen it from them.

Now that's true. But they were part of building this country and others like Australia and Canada. The Irish who came here pre 1800's were primarily Scots living in Ireland-Ulster. Colonies had English, German , Swedes in DE, UK.

How much public money has the US given Haiti and how much private over the last 8+ decades? Clinton money and results? Haiti had Papa Doc then Baby Doc. http://www.nytimes.com/1971/04/23/archives/papa-doc-a-ruthless-dictator-kept-the-haitians-in-illiteracy-and.html

Haiti is a separate country. Where did all the money go?

So you don’t want immigrants from corrupt countries then? In addition to ones with poor sewage treatment? Just trying to keep track of the requirements.

I don't want to live in a place where payoffs are a part of doing business or interacting with government agencies, nor should anyone else.

I had enough of that while working in China.

Don’t be dumb. The new tax plan is a gift to Trump donors and assorted lobbyists. There are a zillion examples of pay to play in the United States.

Do you have to slip a hundred so the water guy doesn't turn off your water despite your bill being up to date?
Do you have slip $50 to the lady at the DMV to take your photo for your drivers license?
Do you expect the UPS guy to get stopped and have to pay a cop $60 just so he can go on his way to make deliveries?
Do many fellow drivers have licenses that they "bought" but never took the test?

There is corruption to be sure in the USA, but we mostly respect the rule of law, and you don't have to pay bribes in daily life. That is not true in most of the world were corruption is viewed as normal since they don't pay government employees a professional wage.

The President of the United States has no business calling any foreign nation a "shithole"!!! For God's sake, people, have you no sense of decency left? These are our allies, our trade partners and the homelands of millions of American citizens.

There is no discussion on this - trump was WRONG.

He was wrong, but that doesn't make it a racist statement. The people calling it a racist statement (cnn,MSNBC,etc.) wonder why people don't see them as being credible. They will literally spend hours obsessing over one comment.

Everyone knows the sentiment behind the words was racist, bigoted, uninformed, you name it: he not only denigrated two places whose citizens are dark-skinned, hd asked why we allow citizens from those countries to immigrate to the US. What is he saying to you about those citizens? I know what I hear.

Just curious--how would you describe countries (NOT the people) from which so many citizens are trying to leave due to the conditions there?

It’s interesting that there is no such thing as an ethnic American.

He was like Trump in so many ways but he was a Democrat so we elected him year after year to numerous offices and named a building after him.

Nope, I have never heard of him and am sure he was never Presdent of the United States speaking about foreign countries we have diplomatic and economic relationships with.

Try again, Skippy. To defend trump just makes you as trashy as he is.

So why aren't people moving en masse to Haiti and Africa?

Surely in Haiti's case, with infant mortality rates 9x of the USA, a literacy rate of 48% and a life expectancy of 63 years, it would be a wonderful place to raise a family.

https://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/haiti_statistics.html

Agree, all the pearl clutching libs need to go live in Haiti and Africa - you know, since they are so gorgeous and full of beautiful, warm, and friendly people.

I work with Haitians and Africans every week. They are, no joke, the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. They work hard, most of them don’t have much, but they are so grateful for the opportunity and their lives here.

Why did they leave Haiti? And Africa?

Why did your ancestor, or Trump's mother? Or Melania or Ivana?

To come to a FAR better place to live.

Conflict zone. Disaster area. Economically depressed region. Plenty of fine terms

The US is a very diverse country comprised of people from so many places. That diversity is a strength but can also make it more challenging for people to come to consensus about various issues. Norway is a very non-diverse country.

All of which makes them less than appealing for long-term residency. Re Haiti, you could also toss in repression, starvation, brutality and cruel torture (thanks to Baby Doc Duvalier et al). Sounds like hell to me.

Complicated.

(You do realize that Africa is a huge continent with more than 50 countries right?)

And what does that have to do with preventing their inhabitants from immigrating here while inviting Norwegians?

CNN: The president is a racist

MSNBC: The president is a racist

FOX: ARE UFO'S real?

Usually, this is a hyperbole. I just use it for comedic effect to point out the lunacy that is Fox News.

But not tonight, no, tonight we get this.
