The Pitt, Season 2

My favorite characters this season are Whitaker, Langdon, Dana, Perla, Al Hashimi, and McKay. McKay has been a standout to me. But yes I did notice they don’t talk about her ankle monitor.

Santos is insufferable: arrogant with a chip on her shoulder, and we don't know why -- no backstory.
I want more Mohan! She is awesome and a bright light.
Dana's accent is suddenly too much.

I admit I could take or leave quite a few of the characters. It's a huge cast. Santos is more interesting to me than Mohan. I barely know who Mohan is. Garcia is interesting only because she's so rude and she's dating Santos. Olgilvie is a construct. Joy is interesting. Perla and the other Filipino nurse are used well as characters, as is the new nurse - who is getting choked out!!

I could take or leave McKay. I find her irritating and they seemed to have dropped her storyline of her personal problems. Love Whitaker.

Al Hashimi is a robot, but a good foil to Robby.

I agree with almost all of these, except Al-Hashimi has really grown on me and I think has way more depth. But yes -- I like Mohan but her character feels somewhat one note to me. It's not a knock on the actress, I just think the writing for her has been a bit uneven.

I found McKay incredibly annoying in Season 1 when she was showing Javadi the ropes in the first few episodes, but she got a little better by the end of the season and this year I like her. Last year they wrote her as the sort of person who just trauma dumps on whoever is nearby, including patients, but in this way where it's like she thinks this is a virtue. It's not unrealistic -- I know several McKays in real life, and it's not an uncommon personality among people who are sober/in recovery or have been through a bad divorce or similar issues. But I dislike it because it forces you to process ALL their issues from the moment you meet them, and I think it's too much to ask of people. But they've really tempered that this season and now it's more like her past experiences inform how she interacts with people and make her empathetic and really open-minded about people, but she's not like "hi, we just met and this is crazy, but let me tell you about my custody battle and my drug problem!" No. Have some boundaries.

Mel is annoying this season but I'm chalking it up to her just having a really bad day.

We've gotten a bunch of backstory on Santos, more than most. She was a competitive gymnast. She was sexually assaulted as a child (it's implied that she might have been molested by a gymnastics coach). She had a close friend either commit suicide or attempt to commit suicide, and it's implied that the friend was a fellow gymnast who may also have been SAd by a coach. She speaks Tagalog, indicating at least one of her parents was an immigrant.

Meanwhile we really learned nothing about Mohan last year except that she is kind but spends too much time chatting with patients. At least this year we've got some backstory on her mom in NJ and their relationship, which has helped round her out some. Santos was definitely a more rounded out character coming into this season.

He is *such* a jerk to her, even last season when he was less of a jerk overall.

I feel like this will ultimately be explained as him trying to dissuade Mohan from emergency medicine because he thinks she's too sensitive (like him) and wants to spare her the grief and burnout. But it's impossible for it not to read as him taking out aggression on a female, not white, but incredible bly competent doctor with good bedside manner, while doting on Whitaker and talking him up all the time. And Langdon, another white guy, was his favorite before that.

Actually, I think there were genuine questions about her competence even last season. She might not be cut out for this.

It wasn't a question about her competence, it was Robby telling her she needed to spend less time talking to patients because they had a lot of pressure to treat patients more quickly and she needed to get her numbers up. That's not a competence issue, it's a speed and style issue.

Mohan might not be well suited for emergency medicine, sure. She's exploring other specialties for her fellowship and it's clear she's being thoughtful about what makes the most sense for her -- she might do better in a specialty where she can spend more time with patients and where there is lower stress overall. A good attending would be honest with her about her suitability for the specialty *without being an a**hole.* Mohan is not stubborn or arrogant, there's no indication that the only way to get through to her is to be blunt to the point of rudeness.

We've also seen her do her job very, very well on many occasions so I'm not convinced for certain that she isn't "cut out for it." The way Robby is behaving this season indicates HE might not be cut out for it, actually. Which is why it was especially rich when he was unloading on Mohan and telling her to "get it together" and learn to leave her life at the door. He is doing neither, it's BS. Mohan is more with it on this shift than Robby is, by a mile, and his behavior towards her is totally uncalled for. Her performance is actually extra impressive when you consider she's dealing with the added stress of being berated by her boss multiple times a day.

I kind of wonder if Robby thinks he's "mentoring" her, because she is too empathetic. He wants her to avoid the emotional connections that have caused his PTSD. Not agreeing with him, but this could be part of his motivation.

Ah this is a good point. Maybe he does see himself in her, which is triggering, causing him to be an arse. But he also tries to use tough love to keep her from going down the same path. Still disrespectful and hard to watch so hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Santos is one of the most poorly written characters I’ve seen. Right off the bat with those stupid nicknames - Huckleberry and Crash. They are trying to make her be that stereotypical abrasive character, but it just seems way too forced. They need to do a better job developing her character or get rid of her. Nothing against the actress.

I don't understand why Dana suddenly has a bizarre Brooklyn accent.

PP here. The healthcare workers I personally know of who got jail time were either running Pill mills or selling pills to the public

Ogilvie is really growing on me. The street team thing with McKay was good for him.

we talked about this for days at the beginning of the season. I've seen people interviewing the actress and ask her to say something in the accent, and they all think it's so awesome. Not a single person has suggested it sounds anything like a pittsburgh accent. and weirder that it was developed over the off season. otherwise, dana can do no wrong

Dana is great, IDGAF about her accent.

I'm having trouble suspending my disbelief that lawyers would be doing depositions on the 4th of July. No indication that they're on the eve of trial or anything.

Just suspend it - it's a medical drama with a quirk to get people to tune in but those details really aren't that important.
