New poster. Yes, Clemson sent separate email yesterday saying DD is top of very competitive pool of applicants and will receive scholarship in March.

DD got that email too. So exciting. Congrats!

Is this a way to keep students from accepting offer from another school? Not to be negative, but couldn't they just give a low offer of $500 to keep you from choosing another school.

Do you realize how much college costs? $500 is not keeping anyone from choosing a different school.

I think the PP meant that Clemson is enticing you not to accept another school now - by promising a scholarship that could be a really small amount.

Swarthmore! So glad it’s easy travel there and back among many other things. Good luck and congrats to all!

It seems like the wise course of action is to wait until May 1 to see what might happen in terms of merit $. You’re right Clemson might not come up with much, but maybe it will? Maybe another school will up their offer. Maybe not. Seems to be wise to edit and see.

NP here. I’d be very cautious with Clemson offering merit aid to OOS. It’s a public university that typically gives very limited, if any, merit to OOS students. I’m sure your child is more than worthy of merit aid but if your child is OOS I wouldn’t expect a game changing merit award from Clemson. From another public school with a higher admission rate, like Bama or LSU or ASU, sure but not from Clemson. Good luck.

2 years ago my out-of-state son was offered $8,000 in Merit from Clemson. It was obviously not enough to make the school comparable to our in-state options. But then, a month later, we were offered an additional $16,000 in something they called an out-of-state Grant. So, you never know

Did they offer you the additional $16k out of the blue? Or did you reach out to them to ask for more?

This is PP. DD has plenty of other applications out there. The “offer” from Clemson is nice but if she gets into one of her top schools, the money won’t matter. But will probably wait to see how much the offer.

In at Loyola Maryland with huge merit scholarship!

That’s awesome! When did you find out about Loyola? How much is it annually and what is the new cost of attendance?

Did they say at what time? My kid has opened all her acceptances so far at school. I would like to be with her for this one at least!

Heard about EA this afternoon. I'm not sure about cost of attendance, I think around $80,000. Merit aid is $37,000/year!

Oh, that’s fantastic! DC is waiting on EA for Loyola as well so I can only hope for them to get admitted, much less that much merit.
