Why are all my friends in the far suburbs already posting their photos with Santa? It. Is. November. 13th. |
I don't know, but this year seems even earlier than normal. Thanksgiving is wonderful! Give it its due! |
Oh, but are they in the FAR SUBURBS? |
Maybe they are so far out that it’s a different date where they live, like Dec. 13. |
lol I already have the tree up and all presents wrapped! My neighbors have had their exterior Christmas decorations up since last week. |
This is strange. |
Third Christmas thread in a week. Who cares? Do or don’t put your decorations up early....no one cares what you think. All my shopping is done. |
No, it's not strange. I'm originally from Canada, it's perfectly normal at this time of year. Plus, I don't care for Amercian Thanksgiving. Never will. People in my MoCo neighborhood had their Christmas lights up during the last week of October. |
My exterior Christmas lights are being put up next week because I use a service and they have a lot of homes to get to. Plus I get a small discount. Not ideal because I love Thanksgiving and prefer to not celebrate early. |
+1 another Canadian here. I guess some of it is regional, but I can say that even growing up in the 80s, we always decorated, etc. around the second week of November. So no, decorating early isn’t new. We either went to or watched the Toronto Santa Claus Parade and would put up the tree that weekend. We follow suit in our house now. One of our friends gets up super early on Nov.1 and decorates so the house is ready when her kids get up (they do the tree together, but she puts up the garland on the stairs, for example). No one thinks she is weird. Because of the weather, many people and businesses have their lights up already, although a lot of people don’t turn them on until after Nov. 11 (Remembrance Day). FWIW, there are been studies that show decorating early is good for your mental health. (No, I’m not going to find the actual scholarly article, as I’m not bothered either way). https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/people-put-christmas-decorations-up-early-happier-feelings-stress-anxiety-december-experts-study-a8065561.html |
To me, celebrating this early leads to a greater disappointment/let down of Christmas day. Too much anticipation build up.
Plus, the novelty wears off before Dec even begins. |
It’s too much, too early! Even the grocery stores are full of Christmas displays. |
The calendar is strange this year. We normally do most decorating the weekend after thanksgiving but if we wait that long this year the decorations will be up for only about 2.5 weeks (we leave the day after Christmas for a week). So I will start with some decorating next weekend. |

It’s no weirder than keeping it up until February. |
