Should players be allowed to train with other clubs

Anonymous
If a player has a commitment to one club, should they be allowed to train with another club?

My kids sometimes train with their former Club.

We left on great terms for personal reasons--schedules, etc.

There are kids on my children's teams that even play for more than one Club.

Why not?
You pay a club for training, you are not under contract to them like a professional athlete is. If another club offers training at no cost or something uniquely different why not take advantage of it

Your club does not own your rights. A large area club inquired about my kid. I read the fine print regarding "Exclusivity". It was structured as such that the player was under complete obligation/ownership to them. I called them out on it and was told everyone signs that and he also stated that no one ever reads the fine print. Was surprised I did. I told them thanks but no thanks.

Allowed by whom? The team/club they are rostered to, or the team that they are training with on the side? I think it's always great for a kid's development to get to train with more than one program, but it can certainly cause resentment or anxiety for kids on the home team or practice team if not carefully handled.

Yes! Why on earth not? As long as they fulfill their commitments to their own club, absolutely should be allowed. It can only improve them as players.

Yes. they should follow the rules for being carded with 1 club and have a guest card with another club.

Cards are only for specific leagues. Leagues don't care what other league a kid may or may not play in.

Carding is for game play not for practices.

They cannot control who or where you practice as long as you also attend your team practices as well.

This is how a lot of the kids move teams, they train on free days with the club they hope to move to. We realized the club were on was not for us and not serious about it when they would cancel practice all the time for some rain, cold weather and the other club didn't cancel.

Why do you ask, OP?

Yes Absolutely

Absolutely. Helps them experience other coaches, styles and environments.

My DD was asked to train with another club. The team is stronger than current team, but to far to commit. 1 day a week training is free, but our coach is hesitant. Apparently this other coach is known for recruiting.

Why did you tell your current coach in the first place? It's none of his/her's business if it is not interfering with your kid making commitments to his/her team.

I say this because, from experience, you can't trust any of these coaches. I have seen them take it out on the player at tryouts. They will string you along---all the while being pissed you were talking to the other Club---then cut your kid in the spring.

My dad used to always say "what they don't know, can't hurt them".

Clubs/coaches are not loyal. Don't buy into that. Only look out what is best for you own kid. If that's training 1 day a week with another club--keep your mouth shut and bring her there on days she doesn't have practice with her own team.

No one owns your player. Do what you want. Live up to the commitments you have made to your club, but they don't own you
