S/O Side Sitting at Restaurant

Anonymous
A post about public displays of affection at restaurants got me thinking...what do you all think about side sitting? - that is when a couple sits next to each other rather than across from another when eating out together presumably to be closer and/or be touchy feely during the meal.

It’s weird

My husband likes to do it. I find it weird and uncomfortable.

I think it looks weird. I prefer to sit across from each other.

I think it is kinda sweet and romantic at the same time.

My husband and I do that sometimes, depending on the restaurant. If it’s a loud place, sitting side by side allows us to hear each other without yelling the whole time.

I do it because I prefer it.

They suck. They usually turn into The Schmoopys!!

it's far more intimate to look at your partner over a table for two than to sit awkwardly next to one another at a table for four.

Agree with weird.

When DH and I got out to dinner, some restaurants insist on putting our menus side by side and removing glasses and flatware from the other places. We’re “across from” people and always move the menus etc where we want them.

We like to be able to see each other & talk over a meal!

SO and I will sometimes sit side by side.
We will typically do this if a restaurant is on the loud side because my hearing just isn’t what it used to be. I sometimes struggle to hear her words over the din of other noise.
The other time I will do this is when our table is along side a wall and my view when sitting across from SO is just the wall (and of course my SO, but I already know what she looks like). At the very lease, if restaurants are going to have people seated directly across from a wall at least put up mirrors so diners have some sort of a view.

My 7 year old is just now growing out of this.
