College Recruiting

Have you get kids so we aren't there yet. But I'm curious which age group is the prime recruiting year? Is it the U16 year? I see girls "committing" during the U17 year but I'm curious to know if they have been recruited already but are waiting a year to announce?

We started ID camps and developing relationships at U12/13.

That cannot be true. Those are still elementary school kids.

And you are thousands of dollars poorer for it!

High School aged teams are a good place to start. If your child has no idea what "type" of college they would like - sign up for a few ID camps. They almost always include a little tour. They get to know the coaches and other players. We found the camps to be real eye openers. After being pursued by her "#1" choice, then touring the campus and surrounding town - that was a no-go for my daughter.

Prime recruiting year for us was Freshman year with a verbal commitment in Sophomore year. This was true for my daughter and her friends. Boys are much later.

Haven't there been a change starting this year? Isn't everything moved back a year? Recruiting can begin the summer between your sophomore year and junior year? No official visits until junior year?

College ID camps post the ages for the ID camps. If they post the ages starting at 12 they will not be rolling their eyes. If they posted the ages for the camp as starting at 15 and you bring a 12 year old they will roll theirs UNLESSS the kid is very very good.

The new rules state that they can't make any communication until Junior year but they will write the name down if they like what they see.

+1. Girls are a precious commodity, boys are a dime a dozen.

Everything is later now. Coaches cannot talk to kids about anything as far as recruiting until the summer before their Junior year. However, kids can reach out to coaches before then to tell them they are interested and your club coach can talk to them. Coaches will make watch lists of superstar freshman and sophomores but no offers can be made until Sept 1st of junior year.

The new rules changed the timeline. Schools cannot even talk with players until after June 15th of their sophomore year.

$400 (average ID camp cost) for a name assumed to be written on a white board? Too young.
