Can a locality leave Fairfax County?

I moved to NOVA in 2006. Coming from a single party, deep blue state it was nice to be in one that was perceived as more moderate with a mix of views. Since then Fairfax County has become much less ideologically diverse. In my mind much less reasonable and more politically myopic. What use to be moderate left and right has turned into far left and less far left.

My family and I now live in an area of ffx that appears to be the last bastillion of moderation and open to both red set and blue set of ideas, however this area will be a distinct minority view as it pertains to county politics and decision making. If things continue, once our children are out of school, we will likely move again. It is just too much. If I wanted to live in Deep Blue I would have moved to MD, MA, or CA.

My question: is it possible for an area of Fairfax County to go through the process of withdrawing from Fairfax County if reasonable representation and interests are no longer possible at the county level?

this is not necessarily the fault of the blue machine. The GOP pushes anti-democratic proposals and Dems come to realize that voting for their moderate Rep rep ends up with the House being controlled by Tom Delay/Dick Armey, then Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise of the Tea Party. It was inevitable that Dems would push back.

No, you canNOT leave Fairfax County. Reston looked into incorporating at one point and it is damn near impossible to incorporate due to state laws. Go fight Richmond if you REALLY want to leave Fairfax County.

Do you feel that your interests are not being served at the county level in some way? I find that most things that the county does are not impacted greatly by whether an R or a D is in office (parks, rec centers, schools, street work, fire, police, dog catcher, etc.).

I guess you could move further out (like Stafford county)?

Yes, I work with someone who lives in Warren County and complains about the schools all the time. I guess they don't like to pay for the schools out there.

The direction of the current school board and local superintendent is insane. Sanctuary cities are insane (and costly). 2 has an impact on 1. We know taxes will be raised as a result.
