I can’t with the pedi’s nurse

DS almost four is sick. I call the nurses line, this woman begins to ask how long he was breastfeeding, and we didn’t make it past four months. SO SHE DIAGNOSED HIM WITH THE FLU because he doesn’t have the needed antibodies, and lots of previous formula fed kids are coming in with the flu.

I said a mean quip and then asked for the doctor to call me back.

But how amazing are these breast milk antibodies that they can still replenish a kids immune systems 3 years after breastfeeding.
Just blowing off steam I guess.

That is extremely obnoxious. I would call the pediatrician's office and ask that the managing partner of the practice call you back and explain to that doctor what the nurse said to you.

WTH? I would complain to the doctor and request that she be terminated.

Are you new to the practice? The nurses at our pediatrician's office all know my kids, have known them for years. This question wouldn't come up.

What does that have to do with anything? A question about breastfeeding is ridiculous for a four year old.

It might be a part of an initial set of questions, for a new patient. Other than that, there's no reason to ask.

It's ridiculous AND DANGEROUS for an infant as well. Breastfeeding transmits some immunity to gastro viruses, not the flu. And not absolute immunity. This dumb*ss nurse could misdiagnose a baby because she stupidly believes that breastfed infants can't get the flu.

Is it possible she thought you said four months rather than four years? It's still inappropriate, but a little more rational.

But she said she breastfed for 4 months so the baby would've been breastfeeding his whole life.
OP, I would definitely complain, that’s ridiculous she would ask or tell you that.

Ridiculous. Call and complain. Personally I would leave that practice if they don't fire that nurse. She is unqualified for her job.

This is why she should lose her job.

Who diagnoses flu over the phone anyway, for a baby or child or anyone? She's a nut.
