That's my thought; otherwise it make no sense at all.

I’m wondering if the pediatrician is asking the desk and nursing staff to slow the flow of kids coming in for flu? It could be poor choice of questions to implement a clinic request.

I think this too. She thought OP said 4 months, OP said she stopped a long time ago or it didn't work out or something (but didn't specifically reference 4 months, because why would you) and the nurse diagnosed flu. If the baby was 4 months, then breastfeeding DOES actually offer some protection against the flu if mom got a vaccine (or was exposed); see (from the CDC): https://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/breastfeeding-special-circumstances/maternal-or-infant-illnesses/influenza.html#targetText=In%20fact%2C%20women%20who%20get,cannot%20receive%20the%20flu%20vaccine.

I would have told her there and then that I just diagnosed her with dementia.

If the baby was 4 months with the flu she would have had to send you to the Er ASAP.

I wouldn't harp on the advice nurse too much. I'mguessing it is a standard list/protocol she is required to ask.

Also, do you think she initially misunderstood and thought you said your kid was 4 MONTHS old not Years old? The bfing question would be more relevant.

No, not acceptable medical care. If in fact the nurse thought the child was 4 months she was not providing sound medical care. She didn't ask anything, but she assumed things. No No No a nurse at a pediatrician should not assume. While there maybe shared antibodies the child is already sick. Hence mom calling and asking questions.

Nurse needs to be fired period. There is not one rational thought to what the nurse did. Time to change doctors offices. Nurses should not shame mothers for whenever they chose to breast feed or not. Or for how long or if never.

I mean, what she said is totally out of line, but you really would advocate for her to lose her job over it? Aren't you a kind human being.

No, she would not have.

What does that have to do with anything? A question about breastfeeding is ridiculous for a four year old.

Agree. I swear some posters just have to hear themselves talk.

OP, definitely mention it to the doctor. I once complained about something a little similar at my dentist’s office and the woman kept her job (which is fine, because I’m not interested in being the reason someone loses their livelihood) but the office instituted a new policy for staff to follow.

She's not the manager of a Starbucks. Her words and actions have serious medical implications. She's also an idiot, would you want your kids medical needs being tended to by an idiot who doesn't understand basic science?

All of you need to grow up.

+1, except managers of Starbucks do deal with health and public safety issues! Anyone who has worked in food service knows that a good manager is attentive about health code stuff, and has what it takes to deal with drifters.

She's badly misinformed about health and pushing her viewpoint on parents.
