How many schools is your DC limited to (by their school)

Anonymous
I had no idea this was a thing. When I applied robs ago, I applied to somewhere around 18 schools... the biggest burden was the application fees but my parents covered those. I just learned DC is limited to 6 schools!!! I’m trying to figure out how to get around this. We want a good mix of stretch, safety and realistic... and want our legacy schools in there too. Six just doesn’t cut it. Can I request the transcripts from the school myself and just send those?

Ugh.

Public or private school?

Our school recommends close to 10, though people can feel free to do more or less

How can they limit you? Confused

Ours had no limit. One of DCs friends supposedly applied to 28.

Have you spoken directly to a counselor and heard that this is a strict limit?

No limit, just common sense recommended.

OP here, public W school. Was told they will not send transcripts and recc letters to more than this. Also they want to limit who is applying to which schools, particularly Ivies. I’m a little pissed to say the least...

Cant be right. The public schools don’t limit. My DC went to Whitman and most kids applied to 10-12. Which school?

Public school - no limit. Though I seriously wish there was.

Public schools are not allowed to limit transcripts request or who applies where. I do believe OP.

Why would you wish that?

Op are you confusing free transcripts with total? I think we had to pay for transcripts after a certain number. Maybe $5/school so not prohibitive. This was 3-4 years ago so not sure if the school still does that. Definitely no limit on schools or ivies. I think you are overestimating the involvement the counselors in a W school have in the process.

Six seems really low for a limit given the changes in the college application process, esp for top schools, unfortunately. I’d talk to the school, than to my school board rep.

There is no limit - they are just trying to limit you. Transcripts at Whitman cost $3 after a certain number but they can't limit you. Push back.
