| Why was this deleted? It was a very interesting discussion. |
|
There is a 75 page thread on the same topic here:
https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/824200.page For some reason, somebody kept trying to create a duplicate thread in the Private school forum. I removed or locked them as soon as I saw them, but I didn't see the one about which you are asking until today. There is no reason for two threads saying the same thing. |
| If you had deleted the duplicate thread soon after it’s creation,, fine, but after 22 pages? The discussions on the threads were distinct and, in practice, did not duplicate each other. The issue involves both private and public school students and so there is a good reason threads emerged - and proved popular - on both fora. After so much discussion and debate, it’s very disappointing that the thread for engaging private school parents and teachers (including those from Maret) has been eliminated. |

I guess "engaging" is one way to put it.
|
How would you put it? By the standards of DCUM fora I’ve seen, the discussion was relatively civil. If there were posts that didn’t meet whatever standards you set (and there were a few that weren’t helpful, for sure), you have the power to delete those individually. Deleting the whole thread was excessive and arbitrary and gives the impression - unwarranted, I’m sure - that this isn’t a topic that should be brought to the attention of private school parents, Maret and otherwise. |
+1 It was a relevant thread for private school parents that discussed the civic role of private schools in the community and their governance practices. and covered different terrain than the DC public schools thread. I also agree that deleting the thread after 22 pages means that lots of viewpoints were lost. |
Thank you, Jeff. The thread was duplicative and was primarily a platform for the same 4 people from the public school thread to make "engaging" comparisons about apartheid, Iraqi refugees, and caging brown kids. I am glad they are making a lying swan song here about any Maret teacher having spoken in that thread. Typical. Warmest regards in your upcoming election, crack campaign staff. |
| Not only a top discussion for a while, but also different demographics and a different discussion. |
I read much of that thread and didn’t find any of those mentions-rather it was an interesting discussion of how Maret’s supposedly progressive values coincided with pushing through an untransparent deal that harms DC public schools, why Maret couldn’t buy or rent a private field as other private schools did and how Jack Evans’ status as a Maret parent might have influenced this deal. I’m surprised Jeff deleted this thread. |
+1 There are a lot of concurrent threads on DCUM that in some way duplicate part of another thread, for better or for worse...in the entertainment forum, in the politics forum. This is a topic of interest--not surprising there were two threads. |
It’s not different demographic. Maret and IB to Hardy are the same demographic. Just a bunch of rich white people trying to steal a park for their kids. It’s extremely unfair to other schools and wards. |
|
Are any of you who are complaining actually associated with private schools and would ordinarily post in that forum? It's my impression that most of you came over from the public school forum and/or just don't like Maret. For all of this talk about different demographics, the thread was simply another venue for the same posters from the public school thread.

Yes and yes. Very disappointed that you deleted the thread. Discussion was good and the private school forum was the appropriate place for it. No public schools are party to the agreement nor are they the only ones affected by it. |
| Me too. |
+1. Not clear to me why Jeff deleted the thread when it had gone on for weeks rather than simply locking it and directing people to the other thread if he felt it wa duplicative. |
