Does U12 play 11 v 11 or 9 v 9? What is a State Cup team?
BSC State Cup teams play in the MD State Cup tourney. They are normally the B team with the A team being the ECNL(girls) or DA (boys) team.
For boys, the Bethesda State Cup Teams are the Blue and sometimes Green level teams. Sometimes the Green Team will play is what is called The President's Cup which is still a state-wide tournament but generally a lower level that the Maryland State Cup. Think of the President's Cup as the MIT as opposed to the NCAA tournament. In general, the "State Cup Teams" refers to the non-Development Academy teams at all levels. U12 does not play in the State Cup. Also, U12s play 9v9. |
Clubs that don’t have a DA (which is most of them) frequently have their top teams play State Cup tournaments. So the level of play is high. PP who said U12 doesn’t play MD state cup is wrong - it is for U12-U19. Last year our club boys won it (Achilles) and we played Potomac Blue. They play 9v9 at that age but it shifts to 11v11 at U13.
Thank you. Had no idea about any of this. Really makes clear all the mumbo jumbo I see on their sites.
