500 leading scientists from around the globe, including US MIT astrophysicist with hundreds of published papers, released this letter to the UN yesterday:
https://clintel.nl/brief-clintel-aan-vn-baas-guterres/ Apologies if link not working; the gist of it is this: The general-circulation models of climate on which international policy is at present founded are unfit for their purpose. Therefore, it is cruel as well as imprudent to advocate the squandering of trillions on the basis of results from such immature models. Current climate policies pointlessly, grievously undermine the economic system, putting lives at risk in countries denied access to affordable, continuous electrical power. We urge you to follow a climate policy based on sound science, realistic economics and genuine concern for those harmed by costly but unnecessary attempts at mitigation. Your thoughts? |
OK, pay for your own flood damage. We tax payers are sick and tired of paying for your beach house restoration. |
Funny you should mention that. I do have a beach house. And no, I do not expect taxpayers to bail us out if and when it falls into the sea. It's been nice while it lasted. |
My thoughts are that Clintel is a front group for industry-supported scientists, founded by a petroleum industry shill, whose sole purpose is to undermine efforts to address the facts of anthropogenic climate change. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guus_Berkhout My thoughts are also that 500 signatures gathered by a known industry front organization are dwarfed by the multiple thousands of scientists, science foundations, and national science organizations clearly stating that global climate change is in fact real and dire. https://skepticalscience.com/global-warming-scientific-consensus-intermediate.htm |
First of all, there isn't a list of 500 names included with the letter. Instead, there are 14 well-known climate change deniers listed. The main organizer, Guus Berkhout, was formerly employed by Shell Oil. The "MIT astrophysicist", Richard Lindzen, hasn't worked for MIT since 2013 and now works for the CATO Institute. The rest are more of the same. Basically, this is false advertising (there aren't 500 scientists listed) bought and paid for by right-wing crack pots. |
I urge you to rename the thread, Jeff. |
LOL.. excellent Jeff. Also, Trump's golf resort thinks it's real enough to get a permit to shore up his resort's golf course. They should just let his resort crumble into the sea. |
Thank you for clarifying this. OP |
Here's the background on one of the signers:
Richard Lindzen
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Lindzen Next thing you know, some scientists will say that asbestos doesn't cause cancer and we should go back to using them because it was a great resource. |
Let's get that lead back into gas and paint! |

Really pathetic attempt, OP. I’m embarrassed for you. |
So you don't have flood insurance? Sweet! |
From the link: "A global network of more than 500 knowledgeable and experienced scientists and professionals in climate and related fields have the honor to address to Your Excellencies the attached European Climate Declaration, for which the signatories to this letter are the national ambassadors." The signatures are from the ambassadors representing the 500 scientists and professionals in the field. |
