Bad drivers in NW DC

Anonymous
Is it an unwritten rule of the road in upper NW DC that the first car to a 4-way stop intersection defers to the other cars to proceed through the intersection? I've never seen this so consistently as here. And it's mostly women drivers who waive people through. The rule of the road is first to the stop sign/intersection goes first through the intersection. Waiving someone else through is not correct, or polite, and it causes confusion.

Annoying but not that dangerous.

How about, don’t pass me on my right blowing through a stop sign that I’m stopping at.

I think people mostly do that when they aren't really sure who got there first, or they can tell the other driver is going to go first anyway.

OP here. I guess I just have that look.

Or, don't pass me on a crowded 2-way street when I'm slightly pulled to the right to allow an oncoming car to come through. Effin moron.

Please, just follow the rules. You're not helping.

Every place complains it has bad drivers.

Conclusion: bad drivers are everywhere and most people are bad drivers.

Do you have a tendency to approach intersections fast or roll through stop signs?

First car to arrive at intersection goes first. If any two perpendicular cars arrive simultaneously, the car on-the-right goes first. More than two cars? They go in the order of their arrival to the intersection.

It’s not that hard, so long as all cars at the 4-way stop utilize their turn signals. I’ve found lack of turn signal usage to be the biggest contributor of confusion in this area. We are not mind readers!

I drive fast towards 4-way stops and brake hard, trying to get there first before anyone else. The other drivers always wave me through.

Seems to be mostly Virginia drivers that roll through stop signs or don’t yield right of way.

DC and MD drivers always tend to be more cautious. Probably because they know to be wary when the see VA plates.

Nonsense. Maryland drivers are the worst drivers in the region, hands down. Or in the case of MD drivers hands and eyes on their phone.

I live NW and that doesn’t bother me but people who don’t stop at all or barely stop do. Just today, after I picked up my son from school a woman blew through the stop sign. Our kids are walking across those intersections.

I don’t think DC drivers are any better. I live among them. All equally assoles.
