| The principal appeared rather defensive at Back to School night. Her use of the phrase “haters gonna hate” in her address to the parents was completely inappropriate. Is she always this unhinged? |
In what context did she say that? |
| Welcome speech to all parents that was broadcast to the classrooms. |
Yeah, that was weird. And why was she yelling? |
|
Who are the haters?
She’s a good principal with a ton of school spirit, high visibility, mixes a ton with the students, and with her previous VP seemed to get everything done pretty smoothly. I’m sure the new VP will be good, too. The front office staff are exceptional. She’s lively and an individual, but don’t be turned off by one night. Maybe she was trying to be funny or cool or was under some kind of stress. See how the beginning of the year rolls out. |
| Shake it off. |
| She cannot be worse than the Rosemary Hills principal. |
|
She was referring to the current political climate, and to a certain group in particular. She has been the mindfulness pioneer in MCPS and pushes back against hate and intolerance in any form. We're new to the school, but I've gone to MCPS meetings for years and have heard her contribute on numerous occasions. She is grounded and realistic. I like her. |
| I like her too. 5th grade parent. The speech was weird but I think MCPS government as a whole was really pissed about being singled out by Cuccinelli over supporting immigrants in our community. There are a lot of immigrant students and the admin take it very personally when they are demonized as rapists and murderers. Maybe that’s what it was about? I agree the context was not clear so it was weird but whatever. I like her and I think she’s wacky in a way that’s fun for the kids. |
| She took all the fun out of recess. Anything involving running or tossing objects was banned. And she does not listen to parents. |
| Yes, she is always like this and has been for years. I hope for her sake she doesnt' have a stroke. She is so high-strung it's looney tunes. |
| This thread is pretty much why no one wants to be CCES principal. |
Seriously? This tame thread that hasn't even gotten off the ground yet? Please.

She is an odd duck.
What stood out to me more what a quote she had about how people who are critical of others and focused on the flaws of others rarely spend time looking at their own shortcomings. I thought that was 100% incorrect. In my experience, people who are very focused on the flaws of others are usually so because they are insecure and miserable with themselves. Haters gonna hate but they usually hate themselves the most. |
I heartily disagree with you. There are turns of phrase in practically every language that focus on how easy it is to see other people's flaws but not one's own. The English one, based on the Bible, is: "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." (King James version, my favorite). To answer the OP, I've met a lot of Principals. The most successful ones are always a little wacky. They've got to be - it's not an easy job being the prime target of snowflake parents while protecting students and juggling teachers and paperwork! |
