How to spruce up home gym to be more inviting? More effective?

We are trying to make exercise more of a daily routine. What can we do to make our home gym more inviting?

And any particular equipment that we should add? We have an elliptical and TV right now.

What do you like at your favorite gyms? I might get towels, yoga mat... ??

I love squeezing in just a quick 15-20 minute yoga video in the morning so a yoga mat has been a great addition for me. I’m primarily a runner so I can’t always make it to a whole hour class and the stretch and flexibility stuff makes me feel good if I’m stiff or sore.

I got a few sets of dumbbells and they’ve been good to just bang out a few sets of weight exercises sometimes. Also some resistance bands. Again, it’s often just 20 minutes or so a few times a week, but it’s better than not going to the gym at all because I don’t have the time for that.

Yes, stretching and strength training will be good.

Yoga mat
Dumbbells
Resistance bands

And maybe figure out how to watch streaming exercise videos on that TV.

Thanks!

Awesome. Thanks. If dumbbells, do I need those rubber mats in case we drop them?

Any good video you tube challenges to make an activity more fun?

What floor do you have now? I’m considering putting down wall-to-wall permanent rubber mat

Band sets (smaller ones for ankles/knees/legs and larger ones that you loop around stuff)
Free weights
kettle bells
a high quality yoga mat (made a HUGE difference in my slipping and being able to stand still)
yoga blocks
Apple TV to stream videos onto your tv from your phone/laptop/ipad
speaker to stream music
fan
bar bell
medicine ball
if you're looking for major equipment, I can't recommend my peloton enough. I have all the things I listed above, and use them every single day.

Small fridge with cold drinks to have before/after exercise

What equipment do you like to use? That matters most IMO. We love our Peloton and there's a lot of content for off the bike.

dumbbell rack (with dumbbells of course). Don't skip the strength training.

If your equipment isn’t in easily accessible locations, have a workout plan and set them out the night before. My weights are stored in another room from where I work out, if they’re not set out, I can easily skip that workout day. Same for my workout clothes. Gives me less excuses. Full wall mirrors are good to have too.

Rope less jump rope for quick cardio bursts. They are great if you have low ceilings.
