Sweetheart deal for Maret provides exclusive rigths to Jellef fields

Anonymous
DPR has apparently signed off for a second time on a decade-long contract with Maret to give them continued exclusive rights to Jelleff field, a public field managed by DPR. It’s sad and crazy and infuriating. So Maret agrees to put down new turf and put up a new fence and pays cash (which likely enriches corrupt public employees) and our public school students are prevented from using a public facility right across the street. I would much prefer that my tax dollars be allocated to take care of the field so public school children can actually use this public resource. This stinks to high heaven. Please sign the petition demanding that this closed door decision be reversed.

You do realize you've posted this on the private school forum, right? so most readers here will not find fault with Maret's actions.

Well, I'm a private school parent and I object to using public facilities for the benefit of private organizations. I objected to the original deal 10 years ago, and I definitely don't think it should be renewed. Yes, Maret paid for the renovation -- I would prefer for the District to pay for renovations and upkeep and maintain public access.

And just to clarify, I am not the OP, and haven't posted in the other thread either.

Same here, and I also object. Maret also routinely uses the field past its allotted time, delaying entry onto the field for other teams (including my kid’s soccer team) that have paid for the field time. They have their own field behind their school, so maybe they should better learn to juggle field time there, as we do at our school.

+1 And its not like DC doesn't have the funds to do it. They didn't need Maret for this. It's just a sweetheart deal that put Maret ahead of other teams who also would like to buy time on that field.

Seriously gross. Why do they need more than the one field they have? It’s a small school. I have no doubt corrupt Jack Evans was behind this somehow.
