Doppler at OB

Anonymous
Anybody else able to just stop into their Ob’s office and ask to hear your baby on the Doppler? I have a history of miscarriages prior to getting pregnant and am in that weird in between stage where you can’t feel the baby yet but have had good ultrasounds (14 weeks). Just stopped by my OBs and they were so nice and accommodating. Let me hear the baby and didn’t make me feel like a moron.

I bought a Doppler on eBay for that reason.

What OB? I didn't realize you could do this ... do you just walk in and ask at reception?

To the PP that bought one ... which one did you get? Do you like it?

My ob would never allow that. They are such assholes. I went for my first check up at 10 weeks and they wouldn’t do the Doppler or ultrasound to confirm heartbeat despite me having miscarried earlier that year.

OP here - I go to Physicians and Midwives. They have been super nice!

I have an inexpensive doppler I bought-I used my FSA to pay for it and it was like $50. It's currently lent out to neice so I can't look at brand, but I'm sure it was from Amazon.

It was good for peace of mind, after a few losses.

Why not every day? Didn't want you to get overly fixated or was there a risk to the baby?

Thank you! I ordered it last night when I couldn’t sleep.

If you can't sleep now, imagine what a state you'll be in when you can't find the heartbeat one day because:

you're not a medical professional.

Lets not assume all everyday regular people (non doctors) are morons, k?
It’s very easy to use. And if you find no heartbeat - you go to the doctor to get checked out, that’s all.

My doctor couldn't find the heartbeat at 16 weeks. I could tell she was troubled based on her demeanor. Luckily, we popped across the hall for a quick ultrasound and baby was doing just fine. I have thought about getting a Doppler, but after that experience, I agree that it's best to leave it to the professionals.

NP. My OB also couldn’t find the heartbeat with the Doppler at around 14 weeks (did a quick ultrasound). I also had a medical student almost break down on me when she couldn’t find the heart beat around 30+ weeks. Seriously almost started crying, I don’t know if she was thinking the baby passed or what but she was freaking out. Baby was breech so it turned out that she was just looking in the wrong spot.
