Would you assume this babysitter isn't coming?

I've had this babysitter once before, and everything went well and she texted me the next week to say that my DC is very sweet and she hoped to work for us again. So I booked her a couple weeks ago to babysit tonight. I texted last night to confirm, no reply. I texted again today around noon, and no reply. Would you assume she's not coming? My DH says, maybe something happened to her phone and she'll show up anyway. She was recommended by a friend, and she's a schoolteacher, so I would have thought more responsible than this. I don't have any other way to contact her besides this one phone number.

She probably booked a last minute vacation and forgot. Or what school system does she work for - aren't come back already for teachers?

I would think not coming too. But fyi. DD is AA and we outsource her hair. She had an appt today. Its roughly every 2/2.5 weeks. I texted a reminder last night, no ans. Texted this morning, no ans. So then i sent her a fb message and she responded " yes, my phone is broken". So give her the benefit of the doubt....unless tonight is the night and shes still not there.

What does your daughters ethnicity have anything to do with the telling of your story?

Black hair appointments are sacred and long. You book one and it’s a commitment. Much different than most white salons.

OP again. I heard from her the next day. She said she had her purse stolen on Friday, had no way to contact me on Saturday, bought a new phone on Sunday, and luckily had my contact info in her cloud. She apologized.

I am not sure how I feel. I guess if I had had a longer history with her, I would know whether to trust this. But since I only had her babysit one time before, we didn't have a trusting relationship built up, so I just don't know. At this point, I think I'm just going to move on with other babysitters for the future.

Hi OP - I had a babysitter ghost on us recently, except unlike in your situation, we just never heard from her after she was supposed to babysit. It was really upsetting and I still have no idea what happened.

Is this a common thing?

Sounds fishy considering with the story she gave you, she was trying to be in contact with you. Which means she remembered she had a sitting job with you. But then if that’s the case... why didn’t she show up?

If her phone was stolen, but her info was in your cloud, and you had booked weeks prior, why didn't she just show up / go to icloud.com and find your number and call you from another phone?

But didn't she know a) where you live and b) that she as booked? How did her phone going missing mean she couldn't get to your house to baby sit? It explains why she wouldn't text back, but not why she didn't show up.

I would not hire her again.
