Admin sent out an email that the following trainings have to be completed by August 21. I know that the compliance training definitely needs to be done by then, but my admin says that the following also need to be completed by then:
Compliance training (child abuse and neglect, code of conduct, gangs, bullying etc. as well as interrupting implicit bias and Be Well 365) Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention Health Emergencies: Life-Threatening Allergies Overview of Diabetes I remember in all other years, we could complete the last three trainings during pre service. They just needed to be done before students arrive for the year. I also don't remember seeing this due date for anything besides the compliance training in the mandatory training memo they sent out a while ago. Every time I think I'm done with the online trainings, I get another email stating that something else has to be done by August 21. I also know many people don't check their Outlook over the summer on principle so what happens when they arrive at school only having completed the initial compliance training? Has your admin told you that these all need to be completed by August 21, or is my admin misinformed? |
| Yes. Otherwise you will get a nasty email. I’ve done BBP so many times that I do it while cooking lunch or folding laundry. |
| Hmm, I didn't know we had to do those other three by August 21st. We didn't receive any communication about that. We have received multiple emails reminding us to do the compliance training modules. |
Your individual hard deadline date for certain ones might be slightly different if your school rolled out group training last year. I have almost two more months to do Diabetes, but the auto reminders are still coming. |
I haven't gotten any auto reminders, but I keep getting emails from my AP and principal adding more required compliance trainings and they say they all have to be completed by August 21. That's what I'm confused about because I didn't know bloodborne pathogens, health emergencies and diabetes all were required to be completed by August 21. I'll do those trainings by then because I don't want to receive a nasty email, but am trying to figure out if this is a MCPS required deadline or a deadline my individual school is setting but saying it's a MCPS required deadline. I have friends in other schools who haven't heard anything from their admin about completing those three trainings by August 21. -OP |
| Can you just knock them out this weekend? |
I think OP is asking whether this is a fake or real deadline. Some schools like their employees to complete all of this stuff before preservice so they can fill up their preservice time with even more trainings and meetings than what is required. I've personally not received any communication regarding completing those three trainings by August 21. |
| You can’t do them during preservice because you’re technically being paid to do them at another time. Your preservice time is being paid to do other things. If you don’t complete them, you get summoned to complete them at central office, and if you no show, you’re in trouble. But I’m not sure what actually happens. One of my colleagues changed schools over the summer and got mixed on required trainings. She didn’t go to one and was docked a personal day. |
lol This is BS - https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/compliance/2019-2020%20MCEA_Completion%20Deadline%20and%20Modality_FY20%20SUBS.pdf |
I think OP made it clear that she (?) isn’t asking about the compliance modules. Those have a clear August 21st deadline. Do you have a memo for diabetes, allergy health emergencies and blood borne pathogens? Those are in Safe Schools not PDO. |
Maybe, but they are not unmanageable to do this weekend unless you have some major issue like a wedding or a newborn. Even with a newborn, they sleep in long enough stretches to get one done at a time. No one likes do them, but kicking the can down the road to a point after 8/21 is unnecessarily risky. Just do it. With a glass of wine and Netflix on. |
You’re being purposefully obtuse. This is a black and white issue. Is there or isn’t there an August 21st deadline for the 3 trainings OP is referring to? I like to know when my admin is outright lying or misinformed and spreading misinformation as fact because it lets me know I should be on the lookout for other lies/misinformation that comes from them. Admin should start the year off on the right foot by telling their staff correct deadlines for things. It’s not a question of whether it’s manageable or unmanageable for people and I don’t understand why you feel you’re the judge who gets to decide what’s manageable and unmanageable for people. |
If you are this angry and paranoid more than a week before pre-service, you might want to consider a career change. At the very least, you might want to make an EAP appointment about some stress management techniques. The children will be here on 9/3 and they need us to be healthy. |

I just found the email about the Bloodborne Pathogens Training. When I log-in, it says that my due date is 9/30/19.
I can't find the Health Emergencies training. So, I don't think I will get that one done. |
Thanks for the info. I didn't notice the due date when I logged in. -OP |
