| So there I was, in a tiny central/eastern European country and Netflix had ton of better movies to offer streaming! Keanu Reeves, for example, John Wick I and II, Constantine, 47 Ronin, all of Matrix that was taken down in the US recently. Ton of Brad Pitt and Dicaprio, including Revenant and Inception, and ton of Tom Cruise. Marvel Winter Soldier and all other Cap America. For teens Shadow Hunters and weekly episodes updated of the last season of The 100. Big Bang Theory too! Here they keep increasing the prices and the content is less and less each day. Thanks for nothing Netflix! |

Netflix US is competing with multiple other streaming apps. Netflix EU isn’t.
The CW (Shadowhunters) is only on CWs site now. Disney pulled all Marvel content for it’s own streaming service launching in November. Then there’s Hulu and Amazon Prime. Plus the CBS and HBO networks streaming sites. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/08/cw-exclusive-streaming-1202163170/amp/ |
| I have Hulu and Amazon Prime, have to pay extra for what they get there for one price. It is sad and wrong, imo. |
It’s not ‘sad and wrong’. It’s market dynamics. You can always just pay for cable. |
It's sad and wrong in my opinion. You do you. |
|
| Try vpn. I was in Europe for three weeks this summer and was able to get my weekly Handmaids Tale fix with ExpressVPN set to a major US city. |
Market dynamics will likely ruin them all. It is one thing to pay for one or two of these services, but once we all to pay for 20 of them, none of them are worth it. |
| Kanopy is free and you get 10 movies per month if your local library is associated with it. It has more artsy films and documentaries if that is of interest. |
| I love the international shows on Netflix - The Rain, Dark, Zone Blanche, etc. International shows are so much better than our US creations. |

The US streaming market is entering a period of high fragmentation. Content is king, with each production studio trying to aggressively hoard its franchises.
At the end of the day, it’s going to turn off a lot of consumers. No, I will not separately subscribed to Hulu, HBO, Disney, Amazon, Showtime, etc etc etc. Eventually, mega-blockbuster deals will occur to solidify all the content under 2 major players. I expect a lot more consolidation in the broadcast media space in the next decade. It will be interesting to see who survives the The Great Content War. Probably whomever has the riskiest banker willing to underwrite the debt. |
I feel exactly the opposite. I watch a lot of shows from Spain and the acting is bad. |
| We were in the UK this summer and got to see Season 5 of Schitt's Creek on Netflix. It's not available on US Netflix yet. |
There is a season 5 of it?! And I had no idea and didn't watch it while in Europe! Crap. This is so annoying, kids will want to watch Disney Marvel shows, they wanted HBO(but that is cancelled now since GOT ended), we have amazon prime(student rate, so bit lower there), I paid for 2 months of Starz to catch up with Outlander, then cancelled it, DS and DD have Hulu... it is like a never ending nightmare. I figure it is still less than what we used to pay for cable, cancelled my Fios TV as nobody was watching it, and we get cable online through our vacation condo HOA subscription anyway. At least with that you can watch Wimbledon live. Just too much, and now I find out about Schitt's Creek! Plus in Europe I watched most of the last season of The 100 and now I've been waiting for Wednesday when it is coming on Netlifx here. I do like some European shows on Netflix, amazonprime sucks too, mostly. |
| Really enjoying the Scandinavian tv shows and excited Mindhunter will be back next week. |
